Four/Five-digits latency after 5pm

Greetings,

For the past 5-7 days I have been experiencing high latency past 5pm Moon Guard server time.

My usual latency is around 200ms, spiking to 300ms during ‘rush hour’, which is fine. Lately, I have been experiencing four-digits and even spikes of five-digits latency, always after 5pm server time.

I have got in touch with my ISP and also done a MTR, both confirming that the packet losses happen after connecting to Blizzard servers.

Would you be able to check it for me, please?

I have done IP renew/flush. I have also loaded the game on a laptop without any Addon installed. Unfortunately the lag persists.

Keen to find a solution.

Best regards!

Hey Coxtela,

Looks like there may be congestion issues between the networks in Brazil (170.238.233.53) and the Blizzard network happening around this time. Since it’s only happening during those specific hours that would usually indicate “prime time” congestion issues as well.

Unfortunately there’s no quick easy fix for this type of issue, but you may be able to work around it by using an alternate connection or connecting through a VPN for the time being.

What you may want to do as well would be to post in the Portuguese Tech Support forums and start up a thread in order to collect information from other players who are using your same internet provider and see if others are having the same issues around the same times of the day. That way we can gather info in a central location and determine how much of an impact it is having on the players in that region. Our network teams can sometimes reach out to internet providers to try and help alleviate issues like this.

Thanks for your reply!

Really unfortunate that we cannot do more to solve it besides alternative connections or VPN. I have recently returned after a few years away due to the Shadowlands promos and was excited to get back into it.

I will check the BR Forums and weight my options.

Best regards mate. Thanks.

I’m brazilian too and I don’t use him same internet provider but I’m having the same problem at the same times of the day, 4 p.m till 00h, with pings superior than 500 ms.

Thanks for your reply, Jambrix.

I have engaged with the Portuguese Tech Support forums, as advised. In two days have got several replies from other Blizzard clients experiencing similar issues.
Unfortunately no Blizzard employee has replied yet.

I am frustrated after almost two decades of World of Warcraft to not be able to join my friends.

I live in the US and have gigabit internet speeds. I have been experiencing latency issues lately as well. Sometimes the world jumps up to 1000+ latency.

Experienced issues on both desktop / laptop. A round of speed tests confirmed that my internet was working properly.

Internet speed does not often relate to latency. Do you connect via a line or wireless router? Wireless connection can be affected by radiation noise you may not notice in streaming services, such as Netflix or Youtube, but can notice in games such as wow.

Posting any traces, winmtr information such as the OP has would help, especially if you gather it at the times you experience said latency.

Thanks for the advice. I did some more testing around the issue.

---- Some other things worth noting –

My Desktop is on a landline and not Wifi and it is experiencing the same issues as on my laptop.

The issue has only been noticed on my main server (Lightbringer) when I swap to another server (Thrall) while having the issue it does not appear to show up there even after I idle around / move to populated player areas. Will continue testing this.

Please let me know if I can run any other type of diagnostic test.

Thanks

If the problem is happening on multiple devices on the same network, then the most likely case is something those devices share which in this case would be the modem, router, and ISP network.

As a test, would it be possible to disconnect your phone from home wifi and set up a mobile tether? If not it’s totally okay. That’s just an easy way to rule out those three things as a possible cause.

Let us know how it goes. Cheers!
