Am I just unlucky? Almost every visit is either night time or gloomy. Is there a way to turn off day/night cycle?
Something Bright potions turn the sky daylight. Inky black potions turn the sky night.
Is that a permanent state? And where do we get one oof the daylight potions?
There is a section in like the southeast that’s Duskwood themed, so is permanently in twilight. But if you only play at night (past 9:30pm server time) then it’s always going to be darker outside.
You can use this to counteract it: https://www.wowhead.com/item=170379/sunwarmed-sand
That vendor also sells a toy that does the same thing, on a longer cooldown.
Not a Duskwood problem - I’m on plot 36, out on the point. Thanks for posting.
Come to Razorwind Shores, most of it is very sunny most of the time.
This is blizzards attempt to get you to buy a flashlight on the cash shop.
NGL some are really good with excellent battery life
Both neighborhoods have a day/night cycle so if you play around the same time every day, you only see that time of day. I was going through my screenshots and realized that I really should stick to only doing exterior screenshots on the weekend when I can be on during the daylight hours. The lighting makes a huge difference in how everything looks.
I linked an item above that sets your surroundings to daylight. It’s really cheap for Timewalking badges.
I have a couple of alts that always experience gloomy weather. It’s especially noticeable in Valley of the Four Winds and Founder’s Point. I suspect it has something to do with unfinished questing in Shadowlands. I cannot really pin it down. You’re not alone in seeing this.
This wasn’t a complaint but rather a question.
I like the atmosphere a lot. Yeah, it is kind of dark at night and the animals and NPCs are a little shadowy. If I was offended then I could change my monitor settings, I know some folk with migraine problems and they have dark settings.
It is all about contrast, in my humble artistic opinion. You’ll get some nice contrasts (especially when we get outdoor lighting) at night and day as it currently is in my little neighborhood.
I keep my settings on the dark side because of cataracts. Too much bright almost blinds me. Going into Lightbloom areas take me a little time to adjust and I generally avoid that Lightbloom themed dungeon. I also have a terrible time in that delve down in Deepholme when it’s on the Mirror story (completed it once and decided not to do that story again).
I think my favorite time for screenshots is the sunset hours when you can catch some really nice shots (though they don’t always show off the decorating well). Whoever did the sky changes in these zones did a really great job.
Parts of it are intentionally always dark. Maybe check out another lot?
There may be day and night. But it’s never sunny in lot 20.
I mean it’s dreary or really dreary and wet and dreary. It’s lovely!
I just want to curl up next to a burning casket and listen the the fox eat rabbits in the woods with my head resting on a good book.
I live on the east coast of Australia, in the Oceanic zone of the game. Our servers are located on Melbourne, state of Victoria. Therefor one would expect the ambience would follow our local clocks.
However this is not the case and never has been at Founders Point. As I write this post, the local time for me is 1-30pm (1330 hrs). Already outside my home, it is deep twilight with stars visible, heading to full night time.
This sucks so bad. All the outside work is mostly invisible to visitors. I always see them heading directly to the front door, bypassing outside when we have organized visitor parties. It would not be so bad if we could use Lampposts outside, but not the case.
We should not have to use Stinky Bright Potions to work on, or view the outside of homes when it is very early afternoon in our time zone.

All of this could be avoided had blizzard been a bit more humble and not committed to the day and night cycle being in sync with the real one. If they did what other MMOs do and have something like a 12 hour or even 8 hour day/night you’d have a much better and varied player experience.
I’ve upped the gamma and brightness, and played around with contrast. It really is night or gloomy most of the time - even during RL daylight hours. Thanks for posting.
I looked up Plot 36, it is very bright there. What does your skybox look like? Does your skybox look like night, with stars? Or day?
It’s nighttime or gloomy on 9 out of 10 visits (with the coresponding skyboxes). Makes it tricky when building when everything is in the equivalent of shade most of the time. It used to be a bright spot, then something changed (I didn’t spot it immediately) and it’s mostly Antarctic winter weather now. Gloom Point.
