Don’t even need to go far… The shapeshifts with actual customization are already in the game: Moonkin.
This opens precedent for upgraded baseline forms for cat, bear and travel with actual customization details like the lazer chicken had, while still keeping the option of going into an unique, non-customizable, form.
I’m just afraid that if they ever do this, they’ll be like “Oh, druids are good now for the next 10 years” 
before even considering adding an unique form, or - for example - the unused Runebear colors.
