Forging the Templar Paladin

I am a little bit worried for Templar now after seeing Blizzard release some information regarding it and other Hero Specs.

I think Mountain Thane looks spot on and great work there! I think Lightsmith also looks very promising already. But my concern for Templar comes in for these 2 reasons.

First, in their recent Hero Talent reveal, Blizzard did mention that Templar Paladins will have a focus around Wake of Ashes.

I love Wake of Ashes on my Ret Paladin. Easily the best button to actually press in my rotation. The issue comes in, because I do not feel as though Templar should revolve around empowering Wake of Ashes. This sounds much appropriate for Herald of the Sun. Slightly concerned here, but of course will wait to see the tree for the complete idea.

Second, Blizzard has said again that they will not be disrupting normal loot tables for specs because of these Hero Talents. Example, a Priest, will not be able to use a 1-handed sword (like Anduin) because of picking up a Hero Spec.

This makes sense here in this case. However, I do believe this philosophy must be ignored for Templar Paladins. This is the absolute best circumstance to allow a Templar Paladin to be our 2-hander and shield using spec.

Especially considering their backstory and the fact that Templar merges Protection and Retribution, it makes perfect sense.

Cautiously waiting for Templar to be revealed. I am really wanting to see a bigger focus on being durable and warrior-like on the battlefield.

Empowering wake would be bad.

This forces players into having wake in their spec to even use the hero spec, considering wake is deep in the ret tree.

um, the spec cant function without wake of ashes. there is no world where you play without wake of ashes. the player should already have wake of ashes

I hope it focuses on wake of ashes and then for port we get a version of way that functions like warrior dragon roar. Ya me have Eye of Tyr but a wake would be great, even better if they can consecrate and do wake as a 8m radius around the paladin fire strike like thing. Would be epic since this tier has really soured me on consecrate

Upon thinking on it, if it focuses on making wake better, how would prot’s work since they do not get wake.

Also forced talents is failed design. Don’t care if you think that “in no world we should not have it”.

could be like bear/balance hero talents and it just a chance to proc wake on spenders. like how cury of elune procs on moon beam dot dam

its the only design

so exciting… /sarcasm.

And yet, there is classes that has better talent design, and the fact that most games that has choices like talents makes sure it’s a CHOICE, not FORCED, and if they could not do that, it is considered bad design.

You need to step out of WoW and look at good talent/skill choice design, specially since your so hung on that FR/ES and wake must be the god choices.

every spec has a mandatory row/capstone they have to take in the spec tree. there is no “freedom of choice”

name one and ill be able to grab a min max guide for it

you asked how they could do it and ive gave you a answer. they want to make templar wake oriented and prot doesnt have wake so thats a easy way to incorp wake into prot paladin without giving them the button

I’m looking forward to Blizzard doing whatever they have planned, they’ve rarely steered me wrong with this class. The only hope/expectation I have of paladin hero classes is that we never, EVER get a leap/teleport in any way, shape or form. So long as the class never gets a leap, I’ll be happy.

Basically any rpg that came out the last decade. Path of exile is a big one with the most customization when it comes to skills.

No, you didn’t answer apparently, as i mentioned how prot would get wake of ashes.

No, they don’t only paladins gets all 3 class capstones and ret get’s about 90% of of the specs capstones. It shows lack of choice, balance and customization.

This is all it would take for me.

Falling Sword.

A leap+slam using wings as a visual. That’s it and I’m sold.

I think overall, Templar-Retribution Paladins, should specialize into Holystrike (Physical/Holy) damage. And then, Herald of the Sun-Retribution Paladins, should specialize into Radiant (Holy/Fire) damage.

I mean this strictly fantasy-wise. This doesn’t mean that Templar is more single-target focused or Herald of the Sun is more AOE focused. Rather just the flavor of their toolkits.

This is why the sound of Wake of Ashes being augmented for Templar sounds surprising already. Will wait to see the talent tree mockup before passing any serious criticism.

I think Templar should focus more on the melee side of being a Retribution Paladin.
Things like:

  1. More physical damage done
  2. Less damage taken
  3. Divine Steed becomes a Charge
  4. Reduced cooldown on Forbearance
  5. 2-Handed Weapon with Shield

I think Herald of the Sun should focus more on the Radiant side of being a Retribution Paladin.
Things like:

  1. Wake of Ashes augmented
  2. Blade of Justice/Expurgation augmented
  3. Exorcism making a return in some fashion

overgear com/guides/poe/best-builds-tier-list/ wow look at all these min maxed builds

and i answered

bear doesnt have fury of elune, hero talents makes it proc on moon beam damage. they can easily “give prot” wake of ashes by making "spenders have a chance to wake at your target

wake of ashes is a engine to the spec, its mandatory, holy needs daybreak to function, havoc needs essb to function, veng needs soulcrush to function. theres always mandatory rows every spec needs to take, if you bought the “freedom” cope from blizzard. thars a you problem. its impossible in modern games
