I made a tool that significantly boosts FPS on Mac. I figured it out based on the FPS increasing for some reason whenever I increase/decrease volume. It literally just draws an invisible overlay over the game, which makes the Mac GPU work harder.
Try it out. it got me from 30fps to 80.
