Did you leave SW’s game because you had to change your name?
Have you no other reason?
If a player leaves a game because he needed to change his name … honestly … oh dude …

Yes. I and a lot of other people abandoned that game for that one reason. I was not thrilled with the game, but my friends played it too. That is when people dropped like flies, so for some people a rose is really just a name others not.
this is BS.
you abandoned it because you didn’t liked the game in the first place.
If the game is good, a name change will not be a thing.
Pah. Thank you for letting me know how I and others should feel.
you’re welcome, and a name forcing someone to leave a game is childish.
we have a lot of problems at the moment with balance of classes and covenants / conduits. Those are the real problems.
Well enjoy the rest of the forums, perhaps only what half is game related? That probably really rubs you the wrong way. You must be busy telling them all whats what, huh.
Blizzard would probably just add surnames.
Personally, I’d rather they just give us the equivalent to Bnet names. Let us have whatever name we want, and slap some digits at the end. Simple as.
Not really looking for a solution, just wondering how attached people are to their name - I have played my main for over a decade, and some of my toons have nick names given to me instead of trying to pronounce them.
The solution is simple and they pretty much already do it, use the realm as the surname. What we as consumers have absolutely no idea is how the software is designed, so it is possible that at some point changing that could be a result. I’m not going to speculate other then to say, things change and happen.
I for one, would probably quit if my name taken and someone else was allow to have it. Vice versa, would you sell your name… I bet Blizzard would have a fit if anyone did that!
Merging realms don’t effect names in wow so long as all the servers are not one name which they are not.If they should then people would be upset some would leave and some wouldn’t ,Honestly ,it wouldn’t matter to me.
I had to change a few names in SWTOR when they did the merger. I was pretty pissed. I’d had those names since the game launched and actively played those characters. But someone who had more played time than me over a shorter period of time got to keep them.
Emm’s name then became E’m’m. LOL I couldn’t change it to a special character, because for some messed up reason, it took them three or four years to finally fix a big where you couldn’t name change to a special character. ![]()
But I didn’t quit. My name change sat there till I could finally rename E’m’m to Èmm. The other name, I just added her last name using the space feature and all was fine.
No roleplayer wants to walk around as Eldrayne#613.
you don’t have to change your name for realm connections you are just Name-server to other servers.
I mean, it doesn’t have to be shown outside of specific instances. It’d be no more invasive than the * which expands out to reveal your realm presently is. It’d just offer near infinite iterations of the same name, rather than one per realm (not counting weird/special characters).
I am curious, you are in a guild with 7 realms, like mine is. 7 people join that guild with the name of Inkwell. This is a good solution? You can see this kind of thing in communities as well.
I should have never given the example of merging realms…
I would say in a situation like this I think the best route to take would be one of two things:
Option A - Whoever logs in first gets to keep the name. Everyone after that would have to name change. Not tbe best option but an option none the less.
Option B - Whichever character has existed with that name the longest gets to keep the name. I would say this is the preferable option as it ensures vanilla veterans get to keep their character names.
Option B would be prefered over A but Option B woukd be subject to if the person has a current, active sub.
Say for example that someone else had a character named Virulas and had the name since Vanilla. I would be forced to name change IF they had an active sub during the period name changes went out, otherwise I’d keep the name and they would have to change.
Hope this makes sense. I’m like half awake.
Why don’t they let people put spaces in their names like FFXIV and GW2 already?
It would open up limitless possibilities of names for people.
Has Blizz ever said why they can’t or wont do this?
Why not by play time? I think that would make more logical sense, however the question was not for a solution it is for feedback. How much does your name mean to you?
Spaces, hyphens and apostrophes are extremely needed.
I had my name since day one of SWTOR, roleplayed actively, but because someone else raided almost 24/7, they managed to get just enough time over me, and had only joined during SoR, so they got my name.
