Now that this zone is empty, how does one go about getting the gear and the mount from there?
You wait for the next expansion that gives you nothing to do so you farm old content.

Hot take, this is.
Either wait for next level cap or keep an eye out later in the expansion, there will probably be groups trying to mop up achievements before df ends.

You look for a group in the group finder or make one. There’s usually people doing it still.

I still have the egg, im not giving up on the mount even if i have to come back few years later to kill the rares
The spark quest was in Forbidden Reach last week, and the rares all drop sparks, which made it a great way to keep a constant party together for killing them. Alternately, you can start some elite farming parties and get 'em by just sheer numbers.
There are plenty of collectible items to farm, so people are still doing the content. If you are having trouble finding people doing it on your server, search custom group finder. There are usually plenty of groups up.
