For Consideration by the Community Council: Removed Content/FOMO

No one’s alt, I just lurk mainly

says you just joined 3 days ago but you have been playing since 2009. In any case, you can only speak for yourself. I wouldn’t be happy with them just changing colors.

The last 3 on the list should stay exclusive.

  1. Mage tower for obvious reasons, I don’t think the example of flying is comparable really at all. That and old mage tower being permanent removes any achievement from the content because anyone with 2 brain cells can do 800 pulls on a piece of content and get lucky 1 pull for a kill. At that point its just the theory where a room of monkeys given infinite time and a typewriter can write a masterpiece. That’s like making so cutting edge and aotc were permanent rewards that could always be gotten for each tier.

  2. No more brutosaur, new mounts with new functionality. Each xpac should have their own big baller mount and not invalidate the 5million grind.

  3. This is standard and staple in PvP games. Limited seasonal rewards that encourage players to climb. The us vs you thing isn’t a thing either tbh, for a problem you suggest is being “bred” I havent ran into it over 10 years of gameplay now so idk. Seems like a problem created in your own head and tbh I don’t think the self made anxiety is priority over the people earning that accomplishment. The class balance issue isn’t really a thing either, it’s like any PvP game…again. If you are good at your class you can get the rank, despite balance, there are glad Mistweavers rn in arena, bless their souls. Of course you CAN ride FOTM classes to more rating but that’s your prerogative, not that it’s impossible not to do.

You are exactly the type of person Im talking about lmao
oh u pay a sub how good of u to be loyal to papa kotick

this part?

it isn’t bad for me though nor any other player who plays throughout. Just because you missed out on something because you were playing ‘x’ game, doesn’t mean it is bad for me.

That guy has some good takes but in general has a hard bias towards the carebear style of design that can be seen whenever he talks about anything regarding “fair” in game design. Tbh if games were his way everyone would have AOTC, CE, Glad, MT Xmog, etc and erase the need for achievements. Hes looking for the single player RPG feeling of “I can do everything” but in a multiplayer game and that’s not ideal because if everyone can do everything than everything is really invalidated and pointless.

But the main issue is never addressed:

They hired people who are known to be failures in an area to be leads of those areas.

I mean it looks like he’s talking about this specifically in the context of hardcore sandbox MMOs.

And in fact, he’s praising WoW for allowing you to timewalk dungeons to have an experience that is comparable. He straight up says “if the experience is the same, the reward should be the same”. And I can agree with that. That’s totally different than people going back after-the-fact with better gear and expecting to get AOTC, CE, etc.

OP is expecting to trivialize content and earn hard-fought rewards. It’s a joke. That’s not how it works and will never work.

Limited time rewards in games are no different than having old concert shirts that showed you were there at the time. It’s just a souvenir.

My only gripe is we haven’t had something like the Mage Tower in 2 x-pacs now. I’d like to see limited time content with rewards for every new x-pac that players can work towards.

We have more than enough old content that stays available forever.

I understand your point. My counterargument to this has always been along the lines of “If I want something in the real-world, there is a way to always get it.” In your concert t-shirt example, if I wanted it, it’s a matter of finding a seller and paying for it. This actually jives with how the BMAH works and may be a reasonable approach.

However, that doesn’t address other things, such as removed questlines and such that ultimately remove story from the game.
