Gold is a rare element afterall. It takes not one supernova, but three! The death of one star only goes up to iron, the collision of two neutron stars supernova creates gold which is then deposited on other planets by meteors. Most gold is evaporated on entry into the atmosphere and reforms as gold dust on the sea floor.
