Something that I noticed after 10 years of not playing WoW: I thought it would be nice to start on a new server when coming back to Midnight. So I started a character on Sargeras level him to 90.With that said, I decided to join a guild and I was in for about a week or so. I noticed that nobody really talks to each other unless you have a mythic key. But what’s funny about that is even people that are just walking around Silvermoon don’t talk at all. It kind of feels like Zombieland. Am I the only one that has noticed this?

No, you are very not the only one who has noticed this. Although those of us who have stayed saw it happen gradually, and don’t think about it much any more.
I’d point to two main factors:
- The rise of M+ and self-directed play in general.
With M+, players could Keep Up With The Joneses using M+ only. For the vast majority, there is no more need to raid. And M+ PuGs acn be picked up really easily (well, mostly, if you’re a regular duingeoneer). You no longer need to hang around with a regular group at any level of the game except the very highest.
The ground for this was, of course, prepared by LFR and before that LFD, which I’m sure you remember. But nowadays it goes all the way up.
- The rise of Discord and Communities
Discord is now the main communication channel of WoW. A great many guilds have their own Discord channels, and their chat is there rather than in tha game. Discord messages are preserved so you can see them later if you are not logged in at the time. Discord’s voice chat is better.
Communities were created in WoW. They have their own chat, and you can join many of them at the same time.
