And in a world with canonical flying mounts and aircraft, having our own flying mounts is being part of the world. To mechanically restrict something for our characters would detract from the sense of “realness” you claim to want.
When an NPC can put me on their mount, or carry me behind them, that reminds me that I’m being artificially restricted from an in-world activity due to game mechanics.
Fully agree here. In Tiraguard when Talia rescues you on her griffon I just thought…I’ve been able to fly for years now I have to be rescued and carried around? Really?
I dont think its flying itself that has a effect on PVP.
After all, we had flying in BC, and PVP was everywhere.
I think what has happened is the players have decided they want
nothing to do with PVP unless they have the numbers advantage.
Or, the level advantage. That would of happened without flying
as well.
The real answer is to just disable flying while in Warmode. If people really like wpvp, they’d understand. Instead it’s just 90% horde flying around with a free 10% bonus.
I enjoyed Halaa. It was probably one of the few times (other than BG’s) that I enjoyed PvP. WPvP is something we don’t need, so there is no need to disrupt the flying ability to support it.
Needs a Goblin engineering anti-air missile that is no soul bound and can be sold on AH. It should allow a player to see all flyers in the air within a large area, lock on to target, and remove them from flight causing them to fall. If they are flying too high, they take full fall damage and it kills them. If not, they are grounded for a period of time unable to remount. Then open to PvP.
This would add danger back into the world again. If people want to turn on warmode, get ready for some war.
honestly i like flight but as a MM hunter in PVP and also a fire mage I understand the point about being up high out of reach. I think maybe a good start would be to shorten the cast time of the netgun thing by half atleast to make flight into a pvp battle more of a risk. Also maybe adding barbs to the net so they cause dot dmg to prevent classes like priests druids and mages from slow falling / flight forming away by keeping them in combat. just an idea to make things more dangerous for the pretty safe already dive bomber
Counterpoint. I flew up and sat on Sargeras’s sword in Silithus just fascinated by the landscape. Also checked out the NPCs on the boat flying up there. Wouldn’t be able to explore many parts of the world like that without flying.
Okay, but I’m not pushing for no flying. I’m saying that if we’re going to have flight, then there should be zones that change from when you’re on the ground to when you’re flying. Take Storm Peaks for example. When on the ground, it’s pretty cool. Massive mountains and even a dungeon/raid in the far distance that’s out of reach to you at the time.
You get flying, you get to explore the high and low mountains, camp out for the Timelost Proto Drake, and can fly to Ulduar and that other dungeon that I can’t think the name of at the time.
If they did this kind of thing with Nazjatar, then cool. But something like that I feel should be available at launch with the only thing stopping the player from flying is their ability to farm up the cash or rep required for it in one sitting.
When you’re flagged for warmode you shouldn’t be able to use a flying mount. Want to get things done quick without having to worry about anything? Turn Warmode off. Want to struggle and scrape for territory and constantly watch your back? Turn Warmode on.
