Blizz should just give FoL on Ret
“Healed target recieves X% more healing from other sources for X seconds”

Then the spell can still kinda suck numbers wise (as Blizz seems to desire), but at least this lets the Ret know a use case and provides gameplay interaction.

I would see very little issue with this if the heal wasn’t roughly 6k base healing on health pools reaching 200k in end game. I don’t see how a cast time for abysmal healing is buying anybody time in a crazy situation. You’d basically have to plan it out and hope it means more than your 2-3 abilities on your damage rotation would. That’s niche at best. 15k base OR a .75 second cast time would make more sense for this.

I mean yeah but numbers can be tweaked. Which is prolly the good thing here. I am hoping they pump up the numbers too.

What worse is the aoe healing DS causes. It’s ticking for 67/per which is hardly noticeable outside of green numbers. But one thing at a time.

Wait- is that no longer a percentage based heal? I honestly haven’t been paying attention to that at all.

At thay point and BoS is better used.

I remember when DS first came out for ICC 4pc. Was so meaningful and ACTUALLY HEALED a decent little chunk

It was like 10-5-2-now 1% idk something like that.

Same way JV got nuked… less dmg than FV unless stunned BUT HEALED for 10% I think base health? Then 5 now its gone

Thunderhead

Does the ability heal for enough to feel meaningful and does the player realistically have access to the ability when factoring in resource and opportunity costs are two different arguments.

If we’re going to say that an ability is not worth using, then we need to be clear on why it isn’t worth using if we want to have any chance of the devs fixing it.

Did you not bother to read my original post?

It’s worthless in combat because it’s a big net loss. In the time it takes to cast, you will not heal for the damage you will have taken in that time, plus you have the loss of that dmg for that GCD. So its pointless.

Out of combat, use Recuperate… it’s free and heals you much faster.

So at what point do you declare the ability not worth using?

I still maintain that the proper solution to nerfing WoG for prot/ret would have been giving it charges.

but it is a bit sad to see people with triple my baby paladins hp only healing for 500more on a FoL, even then 13 seconds of holding down a button for 30k hp isn’t a good trade of time or mana.

It’s a DPS loss no matter what we use in combat.
FoL with cast or WoG and lose the 3 HP.

We have no way to win.
And we have to keep in mind that we have one less shield too.

The only thing I can think of is Eternal Flame. Even though it spends HP, it still heals quite a bit more than a regular WoG. But we’d have to be Herald for that.

This kind of summarizes my feelings on Ret off-healing currently.

Some may say “DPS shouldn’t even have off-healing so Rets should just be happy they get these watered down buttons at all”

If we have to be thankful for buttons that you could just straight up give as is to other DPS specs and they still wouldn’t get used ->then something is wrong design wise.

You could give FoL to mages, warlocks, DKs, rogues - take nothing from their kit in exchange - and FoL still wouldn’t get used in an instance.

IF

these spells were buffed to restore a meaningful level of health to make the tradeoff “worth it” (and that’s a big if) you create a gameplay situation where dps players are happy the button they press does something impactful, but they do less dps compared to someone on the same spec who just Zug Zugs. This has the potential to upset healers (“They’re taking my job!”) and dpsers (“I want the highest parse! I can’t be wasting holy power on off-healing!”)

Leaving the spells weak pisses off Rets (we are here)
Off-healing being too strong pisses off healers (we will be here again)
…Repeat until Blizz finally steps up and changes something about Rets “Paladin baggage”
