I think the torches are more likely events that have taken place. While the people involved are the catalyst for the events, their fate doesn’t really matter beyond just having the event take place.
-
The Sundering (Azshara)- Since it loosened the prisons of the Old Gods.
-
The Defeat of the Lich-King (Arthas)- As the undead seem immune to Old God whispers to the point where the Lich-King utilized Saronite for almost everything and seemed to be in control of his own actions. Makes me think undead who aren’t willing to join either light/void can’t be dominated by either forces. Got undead like Domina and potentially Calia that opened themselves to these powers and got corrupted by them, while the Lich King was able to make paladins submit to his will, and the Saronite stuff again.
-
The Cataclysm (Deathwing)- Because Neltharion was their first pet project during their imprisonment, and was able to furk-up Azeroth by use of her own elementals.
-
The Wounding in Silithus (Sargeras)- The greatest enemy of the Old Gods finally imprisoned, bound to a throne along with the primary essences of the other Titans. And thanks to him being a sore loser, he stabbed the planet before he could finish dry humping her. Now she’s bleeding out, all the lesser titan essences are pooling up in the wrong places, and it’ll probably take someone to sneeze for N’zoth or any other big scary entity to swooce right in and corrupt her.
And regardless of whether or not these events are the torches or not, think last one definitely has to do with:
- The third “death” of some woman (Whether this be a literal or metaphorical death, nobody knows)
Likely the PC will be strung along in order to orchestrate the death of this woman. People say it’s gotta be either Sylvanas (despite already dieing 3 times, she’s only died twice since she was raised into undeath by Arthas). She’s kinda on the same road as Arthas since potentially with taking taking the empty-ish Xal’ath and dealing with Ashvane, who deals with Azshara, who deals with N’zoth.
and then Alleria ( based on her own comments you can hear in her conversation with Turalyon in Stormwind : "…Sometimes I feel that I have already died twice. Once when we were presumed lost on Draenor, and again when gripped by the shadow of the fallen naaru."). She’s already voided up as is, someone like Turalyon or Arator dying could make her go off the deep end.
Only problem I’m having with my own theory is that I wanna say us defeating C’thun, along with Garrosh messing with Y’shaarj’s heart/ Wrathion eating the heart of Lei Shen are considered BIG enough events to be considered torches too. There nothing saying literally any event that’s taken place HASN’T contributed enough to all these old god shenanigans to be considered a “torch”. Even Elune could turn up as a “torch” since she’s the moon, but potentially a Naaru, but she can control her own version of the light, but also make things dark, blah, blah, blah…With this causality stuff, it’s to pretty easy get away with anything.
