I have the Underlight Angler, with a +6 wire. I have the better Nat Pagle hat. With these items and the on-use 10 min lure, do their bonuses matter in catching fish (in terms of quality)?
It depends on where you are fishing.
- Fishing from pools? Skill doesn’t matter.
- Fishing in open water in Legion or BfA? Skill doesn’t matter as far as I can tell.
- Fishing in open water in Draenor? Skill increases the chances of getting enormous fish.
- Fishing in open water anywhere else? Skill decreases the chance to catch junk. Each zone has a minimum level of skill where you’ll stop getting junk, and quest items (such as from fishing dailies) can only be caught on non-junk catches.
They really screwed the pooch somewhere in their scaling with fishing. I used to be able to catch only enormous fish in my lvl 3 garrison fishing shack before a break. Now, even with max fishing for ALL expansions +58 I still catch small fish in my fishing shack and junk in outlands, etc. I did a lot of looking to try to find out what the problem was, when it happened or what the ‘new’ +lvl fishing was required, but I haven’t had any luck.
The old zones still have their old fishing requirements. Perhaps they removed points for older expansions but you needed higher fishing skill lures to fish effectively. Now fishing lures and rods seem to have their points balanced around the 75 skill zones so they only give 2 - 10 points (not many things provide more). Adding 10 points to 75 can give good results, but older areas were designed for +100 skill lures.
Seriously?
Hope they fix that, as I plan on leveling through several xpacs in SL.
