I have what I think to be a simple question. I have started a druid in Classic. I have never played a druid. The question is, do I need separate gear sets for the different forms. As an example, the Moonkin and Balance from need int, the Bear needs strength, and the Cat needs agility gear. Is that how it works?
I would have to have three sets of gear?
Well, I need to say something about this first, you have it wrong.
Cats want STR and AGI. STR gives 2 ap and AGI gives 1 ap plus crit chance. STR is actually the better option until close to endgame when things get a bit more uncertain. Regardless, more STR is always good for a cat.
For Bears, it is a more difficult thing. STR/AGI still give the same stuff and you need it for threat. AGI has some dodge, but it is never enough. STA and Armor are the better stats if you are holding threat.
As far as resto and boomkin go, I do not know, I didnt play them in Vanilla ever.
Thank you for your guidance and correcting me, I do appreciate it. If I need multiple gear sets then the druid may not be the class for me.

Depends on what you’re doing, but yeah you pretty much need a different set for everything.
Most classes keep different sets of gear for certain things in classic, so you’ll do that regardless of class.
Remember that re-spec’ing in Classic gets expensive. Most people didn’t do it very often, unless their guild needed an off-healer or off-tank for something.
And, yeah, none of the armor really carries over.
Also need to keep in mind that you can’t even get bear form, which is basically a tank, till level 10. And then the stuff you gotta do is brutal cause need to whip 11 thru 13 guys. Then at 20 can get the cat, which is kinda my favorite.
Respecting gets up to 50 gold per Respec, and only drops 10 hold per month you don’t Respec, so you will find a spec and stick to it. And, the first two druid class sets are healing gear, so other sets will be cobbled together.
The closest you come to multi-spec is 30 feral/21 restoration, Heart of the wild spec, which can tank and heal reasonably well.
