There’s (at least) 2 kinds of players.
There’s those who want to be able to login to do whatever fancies them, whenever they want (raiding, M+, pvp, old content, play with an alt, etc). This kind doesn’t want to feel they need to do chores to avoid lagging behind, specially if real life’s demands give them little time to play.
And there’s those who love to grind every little advantage they can get and spend hours in the game. This kind wants to feel rewarded for spending time in the game and doing their chores by being stronger.
Those 2 kinds have vastly different needs, and game design decisions tend to favor one or the other, not both.
