Fire-Spec for DK

They aren’t on fire, they are on fel.

There is 0 hypocrisy in saying we do not use fire magic. Engraving a weapon isn’t using that school of magic. It’s like saying dunking your sword into oil and lighting it on fire is magic.

The precise term your looking for is felFIRE

Which is different than fire in the warcraft universe.

Your right, it’s far worse then regular fire since it burns the soul, but essentially if undad can be raised with that…

then logically just like our mr. bonestorm friend, undead can be raised with fire properties.

Speaking of which, death knights isn’t the average undead either, seeing that one of our horsemen can use magic that normally harms undead with ease.

Yeah, I guess I did not see a lot of fire in Shadowlands, but supposedly we only saw a few of the many afterlives in Shadowlands (unless they change canon again). Of course many a player has died by standing in fire, so there should be a special place for those people in Shadowlands.

There are undead that can use holy magic. It’s not the norm and is rare. It’s been explained that their connection to the light stays with them into undeath and it’s painful to use they just deal with it.

How do you know she doesn’t have any pain as a result of using holy magic? The other undead don’t show pain but they do talk about the pain it causes them. The undead priest is one of them.

And yes, death knights aren’t normal undead, but they are still necromancy based undead and part of the scourge. Holy and fire are extremely effective against them and when wielded by them causes pain. But again they deal with it.

Where in the lore does it say that fire is universally harsh on undead? Plenty of examples of using it to make sure the bodies of undead
are too damaged to reanimate, and a few select cases of vulnerability, but nothing universal I can find.

Its throughout it. Not to mention its one of the main forms of damage against undead across multiple platforms.

The light is in opposition of the magics connecting the soul to the body thats why its so potent, and the undead dont regenerate from fire damage and its burning away the thing their soul is connected to.

Lichbane is just more evidence that fire is potent against the undead since it did double damage.

OK hear me out…

I’ve played Warcraft for nearly 20 years, read several of the novels and the first two Chronicle books. Nowhere in it do I recall mentioned that ordinary elemental fire is universally super-effective against the undead. Great for cremating corpses to prevent reanimation and against specific types of undead, but that’s it.

Can you point out specific instances where it’s been stated. No, I don’t care about other platforms, this is Azeroth

The times fire has been shown to be super effective is usually when it’s mixed with holy magic, such as with Ashbringer. Sometimes it seems like nature magic linked fire is effective, too, but nature is a part of Life and Life stands opposed to Death.

While Light does not stand an opposition to Death or Disorder, the holy magic that is a part of Light does exhibit extra effectiveness against both daemons and undead, and seems to combine well with some elemental forces.

Necromantic death magics combined with red dragons living flame. Could be interesting. It’s basically what powers Bolvar, even if he’s not the Lich King anymore.

Ah, so Death Knights should use Acidfire or Frostfire.
Great idea!

As an aside, I love all of the elemental damage types that have come out since they removed the original five resistances from the game. Allows them to create some cool and/or amusing damage types.

Shadowfire and unholy fire work too.

I was hoping we might see something related to fire magic after Shadowlands given the prevalence of Domination-related or Domination-wielded fire magic, but oh well.

Death Knights shouldn’t use fire at all.

I mean, it ain’t much but they already do.
