My level 60 Frost Mage is sat up there on the shelf staring at me and I’m half tempted to take him down and dust him off.
I was playing strictly Frost back in BFA and loved it, but also thinking about trying Fire.
As we approach S2, which is likely to be the better performing spec? I don’t typically like following a META however I also don’t enjoy pumping out spells that hit like confetti.
Frost no question. If a fire mage hits combust it’s an instant cc. Have fun hitting fireball for the next minute
Fire’s tier set next season will be based around hard casting pyroblast which normally has a 4 second cast time. But we’ll be taking a talent to reduce that by 20%, the set will reduce it by 20%, and we normally have about 30% haste so that will make it a 1.8 second cast.
But it will deal an addition 230% damage and be a crit from talents and tier.
That being said normally tier is nerfed in pvp so it might actually be a longer cast then the above, I’d guess around a 2s cast. If you can proc precog (kick and cc protection by baiting a kick) then you might be able to get two of these casts off back to back.
A lot of players hate this sort of play style so I’m leaning towards frost for mage.
Frost without question will remain the best ranged spec in s2
