Some of the early ones id agree. You get into uldaman or later and healers are stressed to much.
Your best bet would be to make some tank/healer friends or make the groups yourself. Remember to whisper people not just spam chat channels. / yell works also since some people quit chat channels or just are looking at the combat log or don’t notice the colour that channels are. Rogues can sap/stun/open doors, mages have sheep/water/aoe both are fantastic to have in any situation.
Best of luck.
Mage is probably the class with the most conveniences both for you and party members, like having free drinks for the healer, portals to go back to the main city and move around faster, being able to set your hearthstone whenever you want.
If you’re a Mage or a Rogue you won’t be wanting for invites to groups just for your DPS output. So if that’s your only concern, just pick between Ranged or Melee and go.
Mage is going to have a lot more utility for you, though. Portals, conjuring food/drink, and frost spec can be very annoying in PvP (for opponents that can’t catch you).
Rogue is going to be an easier time leveling since they can choose their fights, and you can make decent money offering to lockpick in trade chat.
When Plate starts dropping tanks are much more mandatory
Which is uldaman and above level. Maybe uldaman sticks out because its 40-48 and thats a huge range.
The more I read replies the more I realize mage is probably the way to go at first. Although i’m sure the servers will be flooded with them, that is okay. Now time to decide alliance or horde lol
Uldaman I believe is the first dungeon to drop plate and it kicks in right at the plate line.
I always remember Uldaman as the line between mail and plate as well.
If you’re going mage you’re going either Troll, Undead, Human, or Gnome.
Min/maxers are going to say you want to go Gnome for their 2% more int but honestly the mage class options are pretty even if you’re not looking to milk every last percentage point out of your character.
You will find groups (near endgame) start to get more picky about possibly including AoE or other forms of CC especially close after release. As gear begins to push well past the earlier content, CC becomes less necessary and you can typically just deal with it [the incoming damage] and simply AoE everything down. In this case, a CC or AoE class could be preferred (e.g., Mage or Warlock)
Some forms of support are less obvious and only a few classes can do it (minus professions) such as being able to kite and sneak around the Dire Maul North Captain to get the best Tribute loot or even to be able to unlock doors without a Seaforium Charge. In this case, a rogue or hunter could be more useful and get pushed to the front for an invite.
I wouldn’t worry too much about the faction and to pick the one that fits your preferred aesthetics or backstory since you’ll be stuck with them for the rest of that server’s life (minus deleting all characters)
