Finally free

I’ve had the same pc for 16 years minus a new gpu and monitor and mouse.

L2 build your own and you can make it last.

This is why I avoid pre-builts. Its not just about proprietary connectors.
You also don’t know which parts they went cheap on to keep the cost down.

Anyways, you never know! Blizzard might bring WoW to consoles.
Or even mobile. ( “Do you guys not have phones?” )

My toaster is still playing WoW.

It chugs hard like the little train that could whenever I’m in Valdrakken. Oribos was rarely if ever this bad. Zul wasn’t bad either.

Valdrakken puts FPS at 20 consistently. I crash land flying into the area. And it’s frustrating being on my laptop from 2019. I run settings on low for better performance.

Plunderstorm was high lag too. It’s like minus PvP events and Valdrakken, my computer handles WoW fairly well.

I prefer my pc games. I tried ESO on pc and console and it runs like garbage on console. Periods of loading everywhere you go. High lag server. Sadly though the pc version is just a console port.

Plunderstorm probably would be a good wow console clone. I use my computer for everything. Work, school, business, gaming and I don’t have a separate TV in the house (it’s being occupied at all times by the old ladies)

consoles… :face_vomiting:

I’m not here to give advice or argue about PC vs consoles. I’m here to celebrate your newfound FREEDOM!

Congrats on breaking free! Now don’t look back or you might turn into a pillar of salt! :salt:

Then just stick to your console. No reason to stress yourself out for WoW.

I was wondering that myself haha. I had my last one for nearly 7 years and treated myself to a new one a few months ago. Fixed up my old one for a friend and had him pay for roughly half the video card cost. Still running like a champ for him.

What brand if you don’t mind me asking? There are a bunch of low-grade entry PCs that just suck. They sell well because they claim to be gaming PCs.

While not necessarily hard to replace the Mobo or the PSU in such cases, I can understand your frustrations. However, you’re probably looking at a $100 fix pending the actual issue.

Basically me.

My computer would be a zombie from Maldraxxus because it’s an amalgam of different parts, and I refuse to let it go. It’s also about 16+ years old, lol.

Never to see release of death, you’re a gaming machine for eternity.

My PC wasn’t the top of the line 7 years ago and I’m just now starting to feel the need to purchase a new one. That’s about the life of a console.

Worth noting that Moore’s Law is provably over and you will be upgrading less and less as time moves forward, in theory.

oh lord. I had one prebuilt that a MB connector port was loose and it kept shorting when anything would move the table, lol.
I put a drop of hot glue on it just enought to keep it from screwing up again.

As far as proprietary, that is a mistake easy enough to make unless you take the cover off and make sure nothing in there isnt something you can just buy at microcenter off the shelf.
Ive owned one machine, an HP, years ago that had a riser board that I failed to notice when I bought it.
When I wanted to upgrade, that was the reason I couldnt.

Most of these companies building prebuits dont want to have crap they cant just get at a flea market, so just make sure its not got anything proprietary in there and you should be good to go.
These Lenovo gaming rigs we got about 6 months ago, i think, seem to be able to take anything off the shelf for replacements or addons.
Got them $800 each on a sale, about half off, at microcenter.
They play the game pretty much max settings

consoles also are like a pc these days anyways. you got youtube/twitch

I call BS, you can get PC really cheap. That is if you intend to play wow. Which you probably don’t.

No one escapes the MAW!!!

Well its all what you get, if you buy a cheap pc, its gonna go outa date fast… like my pc is going on 6 years and i still get over 100 fps

Back in the late 90’s/early 00’s I would agree with you. I will never buy a Dell, and it boggles my mind that so many companies buy into their horrible ecosystem. My last 2 have used them exclusively for some odd reason.

I’m still using a NZXT prebuilt from the end of Legion(7.3.5), and I haven’t had any problems yet. It wasn’t cheap, but there are no individual components that can’t be replaced with off the shelf parts. My MSI 1080ti/8700k combo has stood the test of time.

Case in point, I had to install a WiFi card when I moved to my new house due to the distance to the router. The only bit of pain I had was later figuring out that the back panel came off by a single button press. Their cases are really nice, and I would recommend checking them out when doing a build.

Most are fine, just don’t EVER buy a Dell/Alienware. They’re the biggest culprits for proprietary bs. Well Compaq too, but they’re kinda dead because of shenanigans like that.

A lot of prebuilts like the in-house brands for retailers like Microcenter & Newegg are used to get rid of outdated stockpiles, but that’s fine for WoW and most general use. Nice & cheap too.

Mate, you made absolutely no sense here.
Consoles are the ones that get obsoleted in 6 years tops.
PCs can last decades, can be upgraded for cheap, have innumerable advantages over consoles, for playing games, like mods, free online, much better sales, emulation, backups, use of any peripheral etc.

Even then, you can use PCs for both work and other entertainment…

Sure, it may be more expensive in the super short term, but even in the mid term they are already cheaper.

Just echoing the sentiment of many in the thread.

Consoles are not worth it anymore, the sole reason for even having them (exclusives) is dying.

Only a future Nintendo one may be worth it because of their first party line-up.
The Switch is already fully emulatable and runs better emulated in most cases.
