Final Fantasy 14 compared to WoW

There is cause and effect. Outside of death/not doing mechanics, low DPS in FFXIV is caused only by not doing proper rotation (including not casting) or not wearing proper gear.

Okay but if you don’t actually know what MCH’s rotation is and you tell the guy he’s doing it wrong without actually knowing or even looking at what he’s doing… that’s still lying. There’s not really any point in debating this.

Technically yes. The reason being is that FF14s content is always relevant. WoW invalidates its content up to only the final raid, the rest is world questing or an infinite dungeon concept that goes nowhere. Rehashing content isn’t really good content.

In this case id give the edge to FF14 for sure. You cant count content if the game makes it irrelevant like WoW does. FF14 also keeps everything fresh. You are always walking into fresh content as you progress. WoW you progress on a hamster wheel. For example Mythic+ = you never progress passed the dungeons, you stagnate in them forever. There is no progression sense.

I treat FF14 as a streamong live manga. The story is awesome minus the pre heavensward expac. Shadowbringers is a mind **** and it is great.

I’m just going by what you actually said. You don’t need to know the actual rotation to see that you’re not clearing enrage and seeing via enmity order to see the machinist is at the bottom and say what you said:

“Hey I don’t think you’re doing your rotation quite right, maybe look up a guide in the future.”

You’re not even saying that you know for sure that he’s not doing the rotation incorrectly. If you go beyond that, then yeah, you’d start to lie.

But my point was, that’s an easy way to lie because you probably don’t have any idea what their actual rotation is because you’re watching their dps on ACT, not their cast bar.

Nothing of what you said suggests that you do. You’re just going by the effect: low DPS.

I don’t understand why this needed nitpicked in the first place. Everyone understood what I was getting at. There are ways to tell people why they’re being kicked without bringing ACT into it.

I really enjoy the story telling in ESO but the characters look really weird to me. Especially the elves… they are more like constipated, demonic gremlins than anything else. Of course FFXIV elves (or “elezen”) have giraffe necks, tiny heads and blacksmith shoulders (even on the ladies…)

Maybe I’m a little vain but I just can’t bring myself to play a game long term where my character looks that weird. Although even if the character models were all stunning, the loot boxes in ESO would still ruin it for me. It’s too bad, their crafting and player housing could have brought me hours and hours of fun.

Agreed, and you can do it without needing to lie, and your example showed that.

I really hated doing solo content in eso, at first it was great, but then it just feels so boring. The scaling really makes me hate the game, I understand why it’s there but its just so ugh.

This is the reason I quit playing it.

what? every patch invalidates previous patches content in XIV in the current xpac in terms of end game besides tomes. Especially if you only play on one character. If you want to gear up an alt job, you don’t need to do ANY content before the newest patch unless you want 24 man gear which isn’t that good, you’d just use crafted gear or normal mode raid gear/savage gear that your raid lets you get or you win from pugs. After that, you are effectively halted on progression for even alts unless you have another character. Gross.

Also, time walking gear is at least good to use for catch ups and world quests scale to an extent. Dungeons too. XIV dungeons don’t scale and all old dungeons aren’t really needed to be ran besides the roulette for tomes. Even expert roulette chops off the older dungeons. you don need the content itself. So you can essentially just do Expert/Alliance roulette for 2 -3 days for the week and you are done.If you want, you can also just do NM hunts until you are capped. Then you do your 4 raids. Once you are geared from that, you are really mostly done and it doesn’t take long and you just work on alts. Tomes would work in the same sense as M+ in that sense but there’s flexibility to it and more chances at upgrades and progression. Then you’ve got visions and other zones you can do for upgrades from 8.2 and 8.3 that can still be useful etc.

so, I wouldn’t really say one has more content exactly, they are both OK systems over all. One just walls you off sooner. They both use rehashed content so I don’t know what you are trying to say there besides you MAY get one new dungeon more per xpac? No reason to do any old raids even in the same xpac for XIV. At least essences gives some purpose to running them too.

Also, you can just use ishgard to level your crafts all the way until max.

The BIGGEST advantage with FF14 over WoW is that 14 is alt class friendly. You literally level every available battle class (job as it’s called) and even every gathering/crafting profession on 1 character. This means you only do the story quest once and any OPTIONAL faction grind once.

Also you can play your main class (White Mage in my case) and get gear for all your other classes.

Another aspect I like about the game sync system. You could be max level but go in a low level dungeon with a friend and allow them to experience that dungeon how it’s meant to be at it’s level. Your max level class is scaled down and even your spells are removed down to that dungeon level. If the dungeon is level 35 then you can’t use any abilities/spells that you get past level 38. You get scaled down to 3 levels over the dungeon level.

Flying is also done right. You can fly in every zone once you finish 2 things. 1. The main story in that zone and 2. after you gather all the Aether Currents in the zone. This just involves exploring the entire zone and picking up the currents.

Lol, elves can get pretty fugly, but they’re not bad if you play around with the sliders for a while. They’re in no way similar to WoW elves though so I can understand that being a turn off.

That’s 2 things I’ll give them system wise. Flying and alt friendliness. I still don’t understand why WoW refuses to be really alt friendly. Can’t care too much for the game sync since they can easily add that in shadowlands with the level squish. They already do it with the questing in the open world. Something XIV lacks entirely since it’s often all instanced and cutscenes so playing with a friend leveling up does not really feel that fun. They aren’t alt character friendly though.

The dungeons don’t really feel like how they used to since re balancing of classes and new classes. DNC just destroys in low levels. It’s honestly kinda boring to do old dungeons in XIV because most mechanics can be ignored for a lot of the old content. You can power through and pass quite a few mechanics and fights without knowing what they even do. It’s just a DPS race to pass as many mechanics as you can. Some you can’t. Have to be kinda bored for that or just mostly fresh players. Not bad that you can have a min ilevel sync at least, for the option to?

When it comes to playable content, yes.

FF14’s version of Transmog (called Glamours in 14) is pretty bad. It’s SLOWLY getting better but the fact that you have to keep every item in some sort of inventory or storage is garbage. Makes it worse that you’re limited on storage unless you want to pay $2/month for each retainer. Even then you’re limited on how many extra retainers you can buy.

That’s another factory that’s better in WoW… storage. Also how you can craft items and have the mats pulled from your bank.

WoW has a lot of QoL features that are better.
