It’s difficult to compare the soundtracks as the tone of them are vastly different. In terms of variety, though, Final Fantasy XIV isn’t afraid to dip into different genres of music and styles, and that will likely not ever happen in WoW.
Final Fantasy XIV can do classic fantasy tracks but isn’t afraid to also have fun with their music, while WoW is very straight laced fantasy that rarely deviates from that concept.

WoW’s cinematics team is RIDICULOUSSSS. They have always, ALWAYS been way ahead of everyone else in this regard.
I do enjoy WoW music and I’ve always played with my music on, but there’s something more enchanting about FFXIV Online’s music to what is currently going on in the game. Perhaps because the storyline is more entrancing and the music is what engages you even further into what you’re actively doing. Also, music is a bigger part of the game in general (Bard as a class, the ability to play an instrument).

Have you heard scream from asphodelos raid in endwalker? Bgm gives me chills.

Look, the difference between the soundtracks is like the difference between listening to Heilung and punk. For one, you go because they’re technically proficient and you really want to listen to good music. For the other, it’s background noise and an excuse for you to get angry and drunk AF and bash heads against someone else who’s just as angry as you are.

Soken had no business going so hard all over the XIV ost, but he did it anyway.
Warcraft has some nice music, but FFXIV’s is an entirely different beast.

ff14 has better music, yeah.

Imo wow has a very good soundtrack. But ff14 has the best ost in the business.

WoW has some top notch music but XIV has them beat, honestly.

I think I usually prefer WoW’s ambient music, with exceptions of course, Ahm Araeng was amazing for instance. FFXIV tends to go a bit of the top with it sometimes like ahem LAAREEEEEEE
Now, as far as raid/dungeon songs go, FFXIV not contest here, FFXIV’s song hype you up for the fight, WoW’s raid and Dungeon tracks put you to sleep.

FF14 is country mile better than WoW for soundtracks.

Also FFXIV is the ONLY game that has ever made me cry with just a song. Close In The Distance had me freakin’ bawling.

I play both and heavily agree with you.
However bear in mind a lot of these have additional ‘feeling’ points we’d ascribe to them because of how close we get to the MSQ and also because FF in general has a lot more vocalised official songs.
I think once you delve into the vocalised songs overall (inc non official) for both games i persons find them to be equal.
My favourites from FFXIV:
Equilibrium
What Angel Wakes me
Turn to Oblivion
Who brings Shadow
Beauty Wicked Wiles
WoW:
Daughter of the Sea
I need a healer

Another I’d add to the WoW list is Lament of the Highborne.

FFXIV blows wow music out of the water
Answers (the General FFXIV theme), Under The weight (Titan’s theme), Dragonsong (Nidhogg’s theme) Fiend (Sephirot’s theme), Infinity (Zurvan’s Theme), Beauties’ Wicked Wiles (Lakshmi’s theme), Shadowbringers, Insanity, Who brings Shadow, Ultima, To the Edge, Garlemald Express, Flow, Footfalls, Endcaller, Close in the distance and recently Scream and In the Balance.
I cannot remember a single wow song by name, and I’m like 50% certain that people would rather listen to their own music instead of wow’s dungeon music
Something that helps ffxiv is that you can listen to the song whenever you want as long as you had the orchestration roll and used it

The soundtracks are a toss up. FFXIV has epic boss music, but WoW has better overall music.
As far as the story goes, I agree that you cannot beat FF’s story. WoW’s storyline is complete garbage and the characters are completely forgettable.
The only WoW character I’ve been invested in was Sylvanas and that’s because up until she was Daneuser’d, she had the best story, hands down.

FF music is too… anime? There is a quality to it that just makes it meh to me. Could be from sitting in that forest city for too long. Game is a little too cutesy. And this come from a cat girl archer.
