Fewer Tanks was 100% Predictable

The number of unforgiving mechanics in S1’s dungeon roster has turned pugging into a test of patience and endurance. You more or less need everybody to do their part with interrupts, dispels, CCs, and so on to stand a chance at timing most keys this season. Good luck finding that consistency in a PuG. As it stands, it’s a 50-50 chance of finding yourself in a knowledgeable group or one where a single failure of a player might torpedo the key.

Tanking and healing are already fairly thankless jobs when it comes to running with strangers. Who would willingly subject themselves to even more potential abuse from randos who project their failures onto others instead of admitting fault?

There’s a lot of Tanks they just don’t pug

Changes to CC have made dungeons less pug-friendly. Timer penalty for wipes has made them less forgiving. If I can’t get my group in discord, it’s not worth the bother tbh.

The longer it takes to get a tank for your group the more the incentive is to play a tank. Things will balance out just give it time.

Na make dis priest a tank. No need for two healing specs.

Yes, as even playing the so-called worst healer specialization I’m able to run keys within a minute of applying to groups.

Shhh don’t tell them the tank/healer secret super power…

You mean playing a more valuable role than just another damage dealer? I didn’t think that was a trade secret…

Its quite simple.

Idgaf about your whining, and since it seems to happen all too goddang often in situations where doing that actually does nothing to help, good luck without me, jackass.

Yeah, it’s honestly bewildering they would make tanks worse and expect better results.

It’s pretty obvious that tanking is extremely stressful and a major source of contention with the community (which is a separate issue, but one Blizzard doesn’t really have any control over).

If anything, absorbing damage and holding aggro should be the easiest thing in the world, and instead focus on the “skill ceiling” being how much damage you can also do. Obviously easier said than done, but if a well-played tank can also keep up with damage dealers (maybe attacks that scale off of damage taken in previous X seconds?), without being expressly required, it might see more success.

In any case… Tanking has always been brutal work, largely for how toxic the community is. Anything that makes healing or tanking less enjoyable is a very bad call.

Are they noticeably worse though?

Not worse because of tuning (Prot Pally and Brew) but noticeably worse from the Tank changes because all the Tanks I know say the changes aren’t bad and that they barely fee them.

I have yet to wait for a tank while doing M+. It’s instant for me. Not sure why other hybrid classes have a problem.

First season of a new xpac is always the hardest that’s nothing new. People expecting to run +20 in the first month of it dropping are just clueless.

Delves didn’t help. Players didn’t want to do sub 7 M+ because they felt it was a waste of time based on the rewards.

I didnt feel a shortage of tanks at all. Had been like this more or less for the past few expansions. Did i nail it, or what?

I have 3 tanks that all avoid M+ entirely because of the community.

Nobody wants to listen to some low DPS who doesn’t interrupts BS.

I planned on pugging to KSM, now I only tank for friends.

Best way to fix tank/healer shortages in pugs is to add better toxicity reporting.

This is for real. I stopped tanking on my BDK after I attempted a Mythic and proceeded to get trashed.

You have to run 10,000 Heroics and Delves before you go into Mythics. The bottom end of tanking, like just getting into it, is horrendous.

I had a group earlier in a normal dungeon (lvling my Priest) that did ZERO damage. We went through 2 tanks. The second one who came in literally stopped pulling and went “what is this damage” lol.

People are just soft and afraid of mean words.

Tanking is great, doing it as a Druid and a warrior and love them both. Plus the lack of a wait time for any group is pretty great too

No matter how people try and frame this, it can’t happen, it would be impossible to balance. We would either be right back at season 1 shadowlands where tanks that can kite are the only valid tanks, or this hypothetical new tank would be non viable.

They’ve also, simultaneously, made healing MUCH more demanding.
