People want to know for raiding… That’s why these posts exist.
If that’s the case, then I may have misinterpreted the OP.
Though, to be fair, it’s unlikely that you’re spending much time in dungeon groups these days.
Yes you seem to have missed that feral resources were extremely RNG based and both combo points and omen of clarity play a huge part in that. Far more so than for other classes and being able to manage that allowed feral to top charts.
Feral had 2 combo point abilities they had to maintain 100% uptime on, while weaving in a third when possible without losing that uptime. While maintaining uptime on rake and using tiger’s fury at the right time.
I don’t think that they are extremely RNG based. But sure there is some RNG, such as being able to generate 1 or 2 combo points. That’s why I liked using moonfire in cat form, to mitigate RNG.
Perhaps my personal playstyle and builds reduced the amount of RNG I had in PVP.
Actually, for most of the time that I played Feral, Omen of Clarity was only considered a decent choice for some dungeon builds, iirc. that did rely heavily on RNG. But that wasn’t really optimal Raid, Mythic+ nor Arena build strat.
I don’t think this is true. I do not think Feral (a Druid build/spec) is far more RNG based than any other class/spec combination. But maybe it is!
If it is, then maybe no class/spec has a particularly RNG based rotation.
Rip and Rake, or?
We’re talking about BC, right? And PVE?
No I specifically said this was Wrath and on.
ANd if you’d actually looked at what I posted it specifically has wrath and on abilities in it.
Ah, my bad! Still, my question stands.
What are the two combo point abilities to maintain 100% uptime on?
I guess it’s obviously not Rake since that isn’t a combo point ability…
So, Rip… and?
Rip and Savage Roar with mixing in ferocious bit when possible. The RNG from crits and how that impacts combo points is huge.

If you get a second combo point yeah! I’ve mostly enjoyed when Bloodtalons is relevant, the most.
It’s been a while since I’ve focused on Feral (early Legion), but I appreciate what you’re saying now.
Yeah, Rip and Savage Roar are important to keep up.
I didn’t consider Ferocious Bite to be a finishing move that would require upkeep, but I appreciate that you just didn’t explain that, rather than being incredibly verbose with your statement.
So, having said that, what about TBC? Do you see Feral as being:
1.) Viable for Dungeon groups as a dps?
2.) Viable for Raiding as a dps?
3.) Viable for 2s comps?
4.) Viable for 3s comps?
5.) Viable for 5s comps?
From what I understand of druid performance in TBC, the fact that Resto is so strong in PVP means that not many druids will opt for other specs.
I’d love to see Jungle Cleave in TBC Classic (indeed, that has long been my favorite 3s comp).

For dungeons and raids feral is viable as dps but bear is a lot more viable.
For arena I guess it depends on what rating you are going for, feral doesn’t get berserk until wrath so the burst potential is a lot lower in TBC.

But how about for rot, (and stun locks) which is really where Feral shines in 3s anyway (or for that, and heals in 2s).
Is stealth Rake a stun in TBC?
Like it says on the tin! What do you plan to play in TBC and why?
I was planning on Warrior - which is obviously a very strong class in TBC, but after this thread, I’m seriously considering druid (and particularly Feral)…

Pounce yes it’s still a stun, and yes if you can utilize cyclone and bear charge and bash and maim feral is not bad in arena.
maim
Maim too, yeah! (an incapacitate)
For Tauren, you have your stealth Rake opener, then Bash, then Warstomp. In BC, this is a better racial than NE have for Feral PVP, imo.
In (after BC) NE is so much better! Stealth in combat to max DR stun Rake!
Well I want to do some content as feral dps so that is why I asked if I couldn’t get into a raid then if I could get into a dungeon.
Is it possible to ever get into a dungeon or raid group as one, even in TBC? I find healing and tanking to be unfun unless I am in a mood for one of the two and I don’t like the long cast times of boomy (which I hear is going to be wanted in a raid for for tbc).
Feral DPS is fine for single target boss encounters. You won’t shine in AoE instances due the lack of kitty swipe. (For Classic)
Are you going to top the charts? Most likely, no. People only say Feral DPS sucks because they keep reading the Classic Meta of stacking Warriors and Rogues.
Feral DPS is heavily dependent on powershifting to regain energy, and crits. Crits baby, crits.
TBC gets better for Feral in general due to the alignment of talents. I only tanked in TBC, so I can’t comment on how good/bad Crit Kitties are.
The real question is whether Blizzard is going to have a TBC prepatch. If that’s the case I think bears are going to be putting out less threat but have better mit. Think cats will be decent and have fun playing with mangle.
Honestly, if we get a prepatch I’ll likely go balance and take improved faerie fire until TBC actually comes out. I can finally live my dream of being a chicken without guilt.
hmm, it’ll be an uphill battle. Your dps won’t ever be terrible - but people will rather you be any other spec

If you’re willing to off tank you’ll be able to get a spot as feral. If you’re absolutely adamant about not tanking at all it’ll be harder.
Don’t forget in wotlk FB can crit pvp geared casters for 15k.
