Original werewolves were people that just turned into straight up wolves. The wolf man 1950s look isn’t original nor are the weird bat-dog things.
Werewolves aren’t just animals nor are they realistic in the slightest though. Logically you could expect people to retain some of their physical characteristics when transforming, which ones the artists choose to keep are up to them. Worgen aren’t even typical werewolves.
That being said, the entire concept of lycanthropy is illogical and straight up impossible even without going “it’s magic!!!” if you put it under any kind of scrutiny so arguing that one thing or another about them is logical or illogical is rendered moot. The entire concept is illogical.
