Feedback: Warlocks

The lasers look goofy.

This is exactly what I came on to the forums to say. The alpha animation for Embers of Nihilam looked AMAZING. I wanted to see them as green so I leveled my green fel fire destro lock to 81 but in Beta they are this ugly glob that’s hurled. Why on earth would they change that?

Xavius gambit and Seeds of destruction should be single point nodes. Don’t change the stats. Just change the point requirements. Update Haunts visual since it is a fundamental part of Affliction Apex talents.

Class tree:

update teachings of the black harvest to let us have permanent doomguard summon like back in legion or have it replace ritual of doom so you can summon something cool, demos can get a 2nd demon from this or something

Soulburn: if healthfunnel is getting pruned remove the soulburn healthfunnel from the talent text since the spell is gone.

Destro: bake improve chaos bolt into chaos bolt baseline, .5 sec cd and 10%damag can and should be baked into the spell change the talent to decimation and move soul fire into chaotic mastery’s spot move chaotic mastery to be where demensional rift and soul fire is and add a clause that lets you for every 3 or 4 chaos bolt or rain of fire summon a overfiend. Move demensional rift to share a node with demon fire infusion and have the Demon fire mastery talent cause rain of fire to trigger demon fire infusion for 50%damage while if you take dimensional rift it lets you have access to the fire rift from legion.

Also for fun let destro get the chance to have the Goroth boss model for their infernal, infernal pit lord ftw

Demonology
First, this version of Demo is probably the most thematic we have had, love it! So many cool demons to summon, is really cool!

Swaps:
Implosion/Power Siphon – We really need both in our kit, this place is perfect for Power Siphon, but they should not be together. Implosion should be a baseline skill to our aoe kit.

Dominant hand/Fel Intellect and Practiced Rituals/Dreadlash: Would swap both, giving access to Power Siphon with Dominand Hand and Dreadlash. While on it, Fel Intellect could give another secundary stats instead of Intellect, would be better to choose between this and Practiced Rituals.

Doom/Doomguard and Eye of Gul’dan/Evil Eye: Would swap both collumns, since left collum is all about single target and Doom/Doomguard are for cleave/aoe.

Other talents:
Inner Demons – Could it be Ancient Imps again? Or at least change to make us have at least 2 imps all the time? The best thing about this talent is giving us 2 imps for start our rotation from 0 with Power Siphon, but it’s have a time where we lose 1 imp and if we Power Siphon we’ll got only 1 demonbolt proc, without Weak Auras now will be bad tracking it. Would be amazing have at least 2 all the times!

Rune of Shadows/Carnivorous Stalker – 2 point for both in this place looks bad to take.

Fourth row: For me this row is one of the most importants rows, since we’ll basically always take all options here. So, Power Siphon looks right, but I’d change Imp-erator and Summon Felguard.
Imp-erator – It can go to any place, It’s not essencial to our kit. I’d Demonic Knowledge here, it’s a talent that helps our rotation and I’d taken this in any content.
Summon Felguard – It should NOT be a talent, we have it since TBC, just feel like a waste of talent point, specially in this place. I’d move Grimoire: Imp Lord and Fel Ravager to this place, same position of Grimoire of Felguard in retail, more or less, and is another talent that we’ll probably use always, for damage and for utility.

Demonic Tyrant and Reign of Tyranny: I like the change for Tyrant deleting the support side to make a big nuke demon(that will need a lot of buffs to hit harder). The only thing I like for the Extension Tyrant give for other demons was to make a big army of Imps and HUGE Implosions, soo if It’ll not extend Imps anymore would be better to just kill ALL extensions and change Reign of Tyranny(maybe reducing Tyrant cast time instead?), because extend Dreadstalkers just slow Demonic core generations. I think we can let this idea die and go with big Tyrant, withou buffs and extensions all summons can shine alone without necessity of any other buff(I really like that Tyrant don’t interact with Doomguard and Grimoires).

Antoran Armaments: I love new armor and new customisation options are always cool. My problem with this talent is the Melee side. Tyrant is our big CD, a CD that needs preparation, soo… when I cast it I want to see my summoning doing things, on melee I can’t see it, a waste of new model, in addition a Melee pet is worse, it needs to chase the target and is bad to swap for a CD that stays for short time and is easier to bug. Please, put it as a ranged again and make the bolt explode for aoe, we can see better our skill and is better to swap targets.

AOE and Implosion: Right now without Implosion, we have to deal aoe with: Doom, Doomguard, Dogs via Dreadlash/carnivorous stalkers, Felstorm from pet, Tyrant with aoe talent, Fire Vilefiend, hand of gul’dan. While there are many skills for AOE, outside of Doom/Doomguard, all the rest is passive or don’t change anything from our normal rotation. It’s just passive, I feel that is missing something to the rotation when doing AOE, now the problem with implosion. If we get Implosion the rotation feels complete, Implosion is my favorite skill in the game and makes the rotation feels good. I know the problems and I think the cap to throw just 6 imps(maybe change for 9) it’s good and solve some problems, but with a CD of 30 seconds and in the same node of Power Siphon is a huge problem. I feel that Implosion could be a baseline skill and get some support talents, if needed, but it really need to go to another position and get the CD removed or get a shorter CD. AOE rotation needs it to work well.

Apex Talent: We already need to prepare Tyrant, the necessity of keeping casting a lot of Hand of Gul’dan to make it works looks bad and we get few demons, looks poor to only get one demon with Tyrant window. The choice of pets is cool, but some of them appear on top of player, they should move a bit to the side.
While at this, when apex talents were announced I expected to get something tied to our main pet or Tyrant, right now Dominion of Argus looks like a poor version of Diabolist. I’d rather see it change to spec tree like old Inner Demons procs, maybe in the place of Stabilized Portals, would be a cool capstone, but as Apex talent looks like a waste. I’d love to see a apex talent that improves Tyrant or Felguard and make something new with them, 4 talents points looks like a lot of space to use it.

Felguard: SHOULD NOT BE A TALENT! It was a really cool option to have during old expansions, but year after year it lost its hype, at least for me. We got Grimoire of Supremacy as a cool option during Pandaria and after this… nothing. We got Guillotine, Demonic Strenght and Soul strike as skills, but all got removed and none ever worked really well, always with some problems. I’d like to see our main pet getting some love, the talents tied to it are quite forgettable. With my suggestion to move the Grimoire to its place, maybe we could get something cool for it in the last rows or in the apex talents. Or just let it stay as it is and give us more cosmetics for its place(I really want a Fel Lord as pet), but I still think our main pet has some design space to do cool things!

Animation/Customisations:
Felguard: I already said, but Felguard needs some love. We got new models for Imp and Felhunter in dragonflight, but Demonology is tied to Felguard, so… I’d appreciate new models and options for him, maybe change Shivarra as female option, she is a stronger pet than Succubus and used to be the Grimoire of Supremacy version, it could be a extra option for Felguard and a awesome user of Felstorm. While at it, would be really cool to have the new models for Fel Lord and Shivarras from Legion as option and I think that both are perfect for Demo main pet options.

Other problems: Felguard was shrunk too many times and is a bit ridiculous at this point, please revert it and make it be a bigger pet like is for hunters.

Wrathguard: Another problematic one! Please, give back 2 weapons for them and make the weapons big too. The main pet of Demonology is completely forgotten for so loong, I’d love to see some improvements.

Observer - Please consider bring the Observer as a pet option back again, a lot of players love it as a pet option while the Darkglare as cd is not exactly loved for anyone, it could be replace for the Inquisidor. Or just use Darkglare as CD and the observer as pet, it was so much better.

Another animations:

Affliction
Drain Soul/Haunt – Drain soul could get a new animation is the same since Wrath of Lich King and Haunt is a really important skill, but is only a little white ball, we could get something far better in 2026, even more with it being a Apex talent and affliction needing more visuals.

Unstable Affliction - As our main spender it should get something cool when we cast it.

Soulfire – It’s a stronger skill, that has a silly animation and don’t have a new green fire visual. I’d love to see a update for it.

Haunt definitely needs a new animation.

After playing superficially all 3 cloth classes (at their dps spec) - which are exactly what I play most on retail - I must say that Warlocks got the better end of the stick.

I was surprised even how better Demonology feels compared to retail. Of course, it’s a superficial notion, I need to tinker it more to see stuff that would bother me. Affliction was straightforwardly an upgrade with UA. Gotta try Destro more to come with a conclusion on it, but it’s already my least played spec, so I don’t have much to base myself on.

Some random general points I could see:

  1. Burning Rush is still bad to use in any situation that involves combat. Maybe add a further damage reduction by Soulburning this ability? Just a thought.

  2. Grimoire (Demonology talent) should be a class tree capstone. In fact, this even solves partially the need of having Spell Lock outside of the felhunter. This can replace Soulburn’s position — which in turn could go to a more central spot in the tree, given its importance.

Before I go into feedback about the different specs themselves I’d like to explain a basic concept that some of you may already know.
An attack that applies a DoT (Damage over Time) is not an event that causes us to continuously attack the target over a duration but a single attack whose damage is simply dealt over a period of time instead of being instant.
Manually applying DoTs to multiple enemies, one at a time, is not multidotting but simply doing a single target attack against 1 enemy, switching targets, doing the same single target attack against another enemy, switching targets again and so forth.
For a DoT to function in multitarget scenarios, we need real multidotting - applying the DoTs to multiple enemies at the same time.

That said, I’ll get to the initial feedback I have for the class.

Demonology:

  • We currently do not have a way to track Wild Imps. This is a very serious issue as we need to know when we have 6 Imps for Implosion, and how many Imps we have when we want to summon the Demonic Tyrant.
  • I do not like the new Demonic Tyrant. This is a personal opinion, but I don’t like having to build 9+ Imps and 2 Dreadstalkers just to summon a powerful demon that would do all the damage on its own (what exactly makes it a ā€œtyrantā€?). I preferred it when it boosted the damage of our rotational demons, and when it boosted Imps summoned after it was already summoned. I would have preferred it had the new Tyrant been an optional talent (even if not taking it incurred a tiny DPS loss), however both hero talent trees and the apex talents require it.
  • Why was Implosion both made a choice node with Power Siphon and nerfed twice to only affect 6 Imps and have a 30 second cooldown? Are we still really expected to use it outside raids?
  • The 2 Grimoires, Imp Lord and Fel Ravager are a nice addition to Demonology Warlock, however they give Demonology warlocks a major advantage over Destruction and Affliction. Affliction and Destruction need to choose between bringing an interrupt or a magic debuff cleanse. Now Demonology will be able to choose between 2 interrupts or 1 interrupt and 1 magic debuff cleanse. Maybe it’s simply time to move warlock’s interrupt to be independent of their pet demon choice?

Destruction:

  • Cataclysm needs to have its cooldown halved (from 30 seconds to 15 seconds). Roaring Blaze is simply not enough to apply and maintain Immolate/Wither on a large number of enemies, despite the spec (and especially Hellcaller) demanding it. Reducing the cooldown will make it easier to maintain the DoT on large pulls and help when moving between different packs in dungeons.
*All the gate 3 abilities (Channel Demonfire, Dimensional Rift and Soul Fire) are underwhelming for gate 3 talents and require buffs and/or other gameplay hooks.
  • Demonfire Infusion is extremely weak, even more than Channel Demonfire itself. It was already an undertuned talent back in The War Within, and now without the DoT extension mechanic it feels pointless.

Affliction:

  • This may be an unpopular opinion, but I dislike the new(/old) direction for Affliction. Affliction is supposed to be a DoT spec, about spreading and interacting with DoTs and yet Affliction warlocks are back to spamming Seed of Corruption as their spender in order to deal damage. Malefic Rapture was not perfect, but it was a step in the right direction. I would have preferred it had Malefic Rapture simply ticked our DoTs (each cast making each DoT we have tick for several times the damage), thus making our DoTs front and center.
  • Are we supposed to maintain Agony on multiple targets at a time? If yes, then give us a proper way to multidot (again, manually dotting each individual target is **not ** multidotting and not something feasible in large pulls). If not, then why not buff it and make it a 1 target only DoT (similar to how Unstable Affliction behaved in previous expansions)
  • Summon Darkglare seems out of tune with Affliction being a DoT spec. All it does is simply extend our DoTs a bit (what’s the point?) and then blast your primary target for some damage. Why not change it so it makes our DoTs tick more often or tick for more damage instead? Doing so will make it a real DoT enhancing offensive cooldown.

Not having Health Funnel is going to be a nightmare in PvP for Warlocks. What exactly am I supposed to do if my pet gets attacked now? Please un-prune this spell.

To me, this talent really belongs on the class tree. It would give every spec the same advantage. And funny how it is in the spec who would need the external interrupt the least compared to the other 2 - the ones where you’re supposed to have more freedom with demon choice.

I am going to focus on choice nodes that I think are not proper choices in the current iteration.

Destruction - Soul Fire vs Dimensional Rift:

From the perspective of ā€œhow do I want to get Avatar of Destructionā€, this is not a fair choice. Soul Fire is a guaranteed Avatar every 45 secs while Dimensional Rift is a random chance every 45 seconds but you can roll the dice 3 times once an encounter. The downside of Soul Fire is you have to be able to plant while Dimensional Rift is instant cast. The problem is that a random chance on the same cooldown makes Dimensional Rift categorically the wrong choice every time. Dimensional Rift recharge time needs to either be shorter, possibly hasted, and/or have some way to proc additional charges, such as immolate ticks like the Amirdrassil tier set bonus.

The other solution would be to return Decimation to Soul Fire, move Dimensional Rift to its own part of the tree with proper support talents, and return Ritual of Ruin into Avatar of Destruction.

Demonology - Power Siphon vs Implosion

Power Siphon is a more universally applicable spell than Implosion. Even if the choice was between the live version of Implosion and Power Siphon, Power Siphon would win. Being able to get 2 Demonic Core procs on demand every 30 seconds or so is a must have for spec fluidity and stronger openers. Power Siphon supports both single target and AOE damage profiles, while Implosion is only useful when there are multiple targets. There is possibly some niche scenario where having a 30 second burst AOE cooldown would be useful, but its unlikely that that will justify not having Power Siphon.

The gameplay disparity might be resolved if the two spells were more comparable. With both at a 30 second CD, the fact that Implosion capped at 6 imps is more likely to produce less Demonic Cores than Power Siphon is a problem. This could be addressed best by having Imploded imps have a higher chance to produce a Demonic Core based on number of targets hit. If you simply buffed the imploded Imp chance to produce a Demonic Core then Implosion might replace Power Siphon in Single Target, which does not seem like the desired outcome.

However, even if you correct the Demonic Core disparity in at least AOE situations, Power Siphon will still be the better choice as it would still work in Single Target. Therefore, the correct change is to break this choice and either move Implosion back into its own talent or make it baseline for Demonology. Hand of Gul’dan could return to being baseline to make room for Implosion as a talent since HoG now just replaces Corruption like Immolate does for Destro. The imp cap on Implosion could stay if you want to simplify when to cast it to ā€œwhen I have 6 impsā€, but remove the cooldown, its weirdly restrictive for an AoE that requires at least 2 casts to be useable.

I’m liking the changes to Aff Lock more then my other preferred classes (Shadow Priest and Havoc DH).

Not the biggest fan of apex talents in general as it forces you down a singular path and using the points elsewhere isn’t optimal.

I don’t know what the solution to this would be. Some of us aren’t fans of Haunt.

Empowering Malefic Grasp or Dark Harvest would be nice.

Side note: Would love to see Drain Soul Fx updated. Malefic Grasp looks pretty good, and having it replace Shadow Bolt/Drain Soul feels great in reducing buttons.

Good evening.

I wanna raise a few important quality of life issues for Affliction after my poking in the last few days.

Overall I enjoy the revamp and new talents but…

  1. Cooldown Manager Tracking:
Currently there isn’t any support for what Weak Auras called ā€œAuto Cloningā€, where a Tracking Bar or Tracking Icon would be duplicated if the same event was triggered again.
This means every Unstable Affliction cast triggers a fresh duration on the Cooldown Manager, and you can never tell when your first Unstable Affliction will expire.
This also affects Call Dreadstalkers, when is extended with Tyrant the cooldown expires so you can summon a second pair of Dreadstalkers, this overwrites the first Tracking Icon/Bar leaving you in the dark when the first pair of Dreadstalkers expires.

  2. Nightfall issues:
I love the new talents that hook into Nightfall procs but…

a) Malefic Grasp: If you are casting or queue a Shadowbolt/Drainsoul after another spell, and Nightfall procs: You cast the instant Shadowbolt/speedy Drainsoul and the Nightfall proc is consumed without casting Malefic Grasp. :scream:

b) Nocturnal Yield: If you are casting a Seed of Corruption and Nightfall procs: The casted Seed of Corruption concludes and the Nightfall proc is consumed without letting you cast an instant Seed of Corruption. :scream:

Hopefully these issues can be resolved. :crossed_fingers:

Hi future haranir warlock here:

Summon: Demonic Tyrant does more damage based on how many imps you have active, yet I am unable to figure out how many imps I have active at a time with the UI. Not even with the cooldown/buff managed.

Please add a way to track how many wild imps we have.

I second this.
Currently the only way to tell number of Imps is a random number on the Implosion tooltip.
Implosion is now a choice talent not every warlock might take.

Wild Imps need a buff to track their number, which is visible on the Cooldown Tracker, like Unholy has with Lesser Ghoul numbers.

Now that you can no longer cast Hand of Gul’dan with less than 3 soul shards, it’s not possible to spell queue Shadow Bolt into Hand of Gul’dan when you are at 2 Soul Shards. This is incredibly clunky and especially bad when you’re trying to squeeze in one last Hand of Gul’dan before Summon Demonic Tyrant.

Also Seed will consume multiple Nightfall procs at the same time….

yeah I took the other talent because I prefer movement. and will likely be the choice talent in raids especially single target ones.

It should either be tracked as a resource or on the summon demonic tyrant bar.

agreed this was a bad change, let us cast gul dan before having 3.

Initial thoughts as someone who is an Affliction Main: okay so guys here we go! Warlock at level 80 needs a boost to their damage. I’ve played Affli and Destro so far and they are -under- performing. As in compared to like Arms Warrior which I am really happy with! in the next tuning cycle consider increasing the damage of Affli lock at least a bit!

ALSO guys im really squishy as Warlock heheh noticed my Void Walker is squishy as heck too! i play non traditional set ups for my characters n try to pick all the defensive talents. But yeah guys Warlock STILL needs a lot of help here! the squish is gonna hurt PURE DPS classes a lot here. i been testing leveling toons and level 80 characters.

I think more work can go into tuning for sure! overall damage (Note i think the squish was great im just saying bring up lock damage at least a bit) the leveling toons i am testing with Elemental Force and without. Note I perform better with Elemental Force ON. heheh im not sure how intentional a change that is.

I want to see more -defensive- options in the talent tree for Warlocks too! i think that would be a huge help as Warlocks are notoriously squishy. but yeah give us a extra few ways to boost our cloth armor n consider bringing back Demon Skin/etc that would be phenomenal! those are my initial thoughts. You guys are doing a banger job with Midnight thus far im trying to not do the midnight campaign as i do not want to spoil myself! heheh keep doing a great job you guys!
