Feedback: Single-Button Assistant and Assisted Highlight Mode

They stated this in the video interview. Its for those with disabilities, learning new classes at a base level and those people that just like to explore the game and don’t play for the combat. They wanted to bring in very popular addon features into the game that a lot of people use.

I am surprised I can still post on the forums since my subscription expired last month but if you want feedback I am happy to oblige.

Personally, I don’t have a problem with automating things like the basic rotation though I really don’t see how that will be of much help even to new players because very few specs, if any, truly have a rotation set in stone and instead rely on a priority system which requires player input and adaptability.

In my experience, the one aspect that most players struggle with is optimal cooldown usage (made all the more important since developers have decided to doable down on cooldown stacking for years now). Since this feature explicitly does not address that I think it will be of little use and might even do more harm than good if inexperienced players end up overly relying on it.

The GCD penalty for using the 1 button rotation should be at LEAST a full extra second added to the GCD. It can’t ever be close to being even mediocre.

It should also be completely disabled for tanks and healers. I can already see tanks using this and then never pressing any sort of defensive because muh 1 button.

why do you want it to be useless?

It will have its uses for disabled people and those who just want to see the story in the game, just as they stated it should.

and at GCD+1sec it would be 3sec or more between casts using it.

That would make it useless.

Why not remove the GCD penalty?

I see no point in making it useless before it even goes live.

Dumbing down the game to one button feels like the opposite of helping people with disabilities. It’s telling them they can’t learn the system which feels like the opposite of empowering people with disabilities.

Everyone saying its for the disabled people - I would like to actually hear from someone who is disabled that this is targeted for because it seems like there’s a ton of ableism happening in this system.

How can you learn if it does it all for you? Once anyone using the one button rotation tries to compete with those who actually understand a spec and how to play it the gap will be much much bigger and dispiriting than if they had invested the time in learning how to play it properly.

Because it can’t ever be close to being mediocre or it becomes acceptable to be used in group play. And it should never be.

it’s more than 1-button we all know this by now if not from reading the OP then by playing the PTR first hand.

and you have this same problem with all the other macro makers, WA, DBM, all of them?

You can go on twitter on and check out CGamer76 who themselves said they are interested in using this feature.

“I’m a c5-c6 quadriplegic with zero finger usage and I’ve been playing since vanilla. I play using a single pencil to type and keypress. I’m interested in seeing how it works”

or a friend of mine with peripheral neuropathy from a side effect of her chemotherapy which causes a lot of pain, stiffness, and a loss of feeling who says she would be interested in this feature.

This is interesting, because (from what I can see) it will use Grimoire Felguard, but not Demonic Tyrant.

If you’re doing no major CDs, it probably shouldn’t use either.

So, to explain to you, with their logic as is, its very strict for Tyrant to be recomended.

Essentially.

GFG,VF,Dreadstalkers,Demonic Strenght(or BB), must be on cooldown, you can’t have 3 or more soulshards and need to have 9 wild imps.

Have Soulshards? it will tell you to HOG instead, have 0 shards but not 9 imps? it won’t tell you to tyrant, curiously tyrant on it do’nt have requirements in regards to other duration-base demons(vf/gfg/dreadstalkers) just 9 imps and everything above on cooldown.

This is the single button mode, not the you still have to press all the individual buttons mode.

The single-button rotation follows the same logic of the rotational helper.

If you prepare yourself to have enough core-economy/shard-economy https:/ /imgur.com/a/D25S7Tp it will be able to high-light tyrant like the clip in the link here.

The issues is the stuff i mentioned above + the 0.3s gcd increase rly making it hard for you to meet the necessary requirements if you already don’t know what the 1-button logic is.

https:/ /i.imgur.com/S0vuQ9j.jpeg

There is also the behavior above, where sometimes both the rotational helper and 1-button will meet a logic issue where its stuck and don’t know what to do, stoping recomending anything.

The single button mode (per the post above) will not use “major cooldowns”.

With how demo works, I’m just surprised that they classified Tyrant as one, but not GFG.

i just posted a link where the single button mode used cooldowns and tyrant, the issue isn’t that it don’t use it, its that it have requirements who it struggles to meet.

Get rid of GCD penalty on single button assist. With any kind of penalty this is dead feature.

Otherwise good idea.

sorry, I was being a bit facetious.

there does need to be a difference between manual play and 1B auto-assist play.

How much of a difference I think is the sticking point rn.

If the GCD penalty were removed then it would certainly overperform on many classes.

Not all, but alot of them.

rn the manual crowd seem to be ok with a 15%-20% difference. I’d rather see closer to 5%-10%. 12% max.

I would like to see some changes made to make that meaningful tho.

If the line being drawn is 1B or manual, then blizzard needs to break every way to call a spell/ability other than keybinding it or using auto-assist.

That way it really is one or the other. Not just manual players using GSe or some other macro maker, or WA, addon, or whatever to replace 1B.

It should really be all or nothing. 1B or manual play

RN one can just use GSE instead and get the same or better results than auto-assist. But all the rage is being focused on the new auto-assist.

The highlight assistant forces you to stare at your bars instead of combat, It needs to function like Hekili where it exists as a separate 2-3 button window that can be moved around the screen. It also never suggests you use any major offensive cooldowns (Icy Veins, Summon Xuen, etc.) but the fact that your eyes are just darting around the bottom of your screen looking for green highlights instead of at your character is a massive mistake I feel.
