Feedback: Hunters

Because you are considering their “original” versions in a far more generic way than you are doing with Hunters.

Paladins were a literal support class. They’d spent the whole raid buffing everyone repeatedly. There’s not a single paladin player wanting to revive that original implementation. Current paladins are the evolution of the conceptual (not mechanical) specializations they had, Holy, Retribution and Protection, much like Hunters nowadays are the evolution of the concepts (not mechanics) of Beast Mastery, Marksmanship and Survival.

Each class has been gaining and losing new “iconic” abilities over the entire evolution of the game. Some things people think essential to the classes nowadays were not there in Classic.

Not to mention some mechanics that disappeared and are not missing. Does anyone miss Hunters having mana until Cataclysm finally introduced Focus?

Nope. I always thought mana on a hunter was a bit crazy. Same with energy, which I’m also grateful it wasn’t implemented. Focus makes better sense.

I was fervently against the Focus change as it happened. Then later I embraced Focus. But now I’m ambivalent and think the class could work either way. Mana is meaningless to most other dps specs that still have it anyways.

The change I loved and celebrated was finally ditching minimum range and the switch to one ranged weapon on our mainhand slot.
-and 1.0 second GCD.
-and 3 fun, viable specs.
-and Explosive Shot Lock and Loads.
-and infinite pet Misdirects.
MoP was such a blessed time to be a hunter.

no class is is the same as they were in vanilla saying x spec is the same as x in vanilia is just wrong. classic exists i feel like alot of yall would be happier playing that.

being this adverse to change is just ridiculous, like this entire thread almost every pet andy swore up and down that all they need was the pet for open world and they didnt care if they had to take a huge dps loss to get it back. its back at a huge dps loss and here we are.

vanila hunter had mana, the change from mana to focus alone completely shifted hunter to something else entirely

Hunters literally had mana because Blizzard had no time to finish a lot of stuff in Vanilla, so they just reused the mana system as a placeholder for the Hunter resources. AFAIK, the original idea was for Hunters to have their own resource, but that only came to be three expansions later.
