Feedback: Death Knight Hero Talents in The War Within

Rework DK first. We all have seen what your reworks are capable of. DK feels bad to play at its core. Its clunky and feels very outdated compared to other classes. FDK specifically… please give this spec some much needed attention.

This feels like whatever the tier set that focuses around Vamp Blood is going to feel really good, and losing that will HURT.

I would really appreciate Blood being designed to feel like there is a aoe build and a single target build. Right now it just feels like set in stone talents that are mediocre at both.

Would love to see Bonestorm supported, or a build for ST tanking that focuses on Marrowrend, bone shield charges, etc… something like Tombstone and Bonestorm, but massively leaned into to make it feel like a viable thing.

Stop asking for feedback on hero talents.

PLEASE FIX FROST DK SPEC before you layer more band aids on top for another WHOLE EXPANSION!!!

I think replacing bonestorm or combining it somehow with swarming mist could be interesting. As it stands now BS just doesnt feel worth pressing instead of just deathstriking.

Bonestorm should absolutely be something that a DK picks if he is doing M+, or a fight with adds that swarm in, but because it competes with DS, it has no real purpose.

Just looking at a “normal” tree:

There are alot of talents that just feel like they need help:

Talents that have a reasonable purpose that you might use depending on content:
Improved Vampiric Blood - Heavy pt investment, but with a Vamp Blood build can be useful
Rune Tap - Very useful for predictable big strikes
Umbilicus Eternus - Very useful for surviving with a Vamp Blood build

Talents that are either underpowered or serve no real purpose.
Heartbreaker
Perseverance of the Ebon Blade
Leeching Strike
Blooddrinker
Consumption
Blood Feast
Blood Tap
Bloodworms
Gorefiend’s Grasp
Tightening Grasp
Bonestorm

Here are a few ideas to make the talent tree interesting.

  1. Bonestorm changed to a 45sec CD, no resource cost, 8sec duration. Now good for adds, the start of pulls, and aoe damage.
  2. Heartbreaker changed to a 1pt talent, increases RP generated by Heart Strike by 5 if it hits more than 1 target, and causes it to hit all targets around you while in your Death and Decay.
  3. Perseverance of the EB, changed to 1pt talent that increases the duration and size of Death and Decay by 50%, and causes it to reset 25% more often.
  4. Blooddrinker damage buffed significantly to make it a high damage single target cooldown.
  5. Consumption damage buffed significantly if it hits 3 or more targets.
  6. Gorefiend’s Grasp BASELINE, along with Tightening Grasp baseline and making it a 60 sec CD.
  7. Bloodworms crawl into their target, reducing the damage it deals to you by 5% while active. Otherwise unchanged. (think the bugs from The Mummy)
  8. Leeching Strikes, Blood Feast, Blood Tap removed. Replace them with talents that let Marrowrend become a viable single target rotation spammer. Not sure how to do this, but it would be interesting if you could spec to remove Heart Strike largely from the single target rotation and have big, crashing bone strikes that played into things like Shattered Bone, Bloodshot, Foul Bulwark, and Ossuary. It would be nice to feel like you have hard hitting strikes beyond Death Strike as a 2handed tank.

Dks a PLATE, ARMOR, USER, CLASS can’t fight against MONKS nor WARRIORS, because for some reason armor is not working properly on PVP, please fix that, if you are not gonna fix that ever, then just put leather on DK and make it do 6x the damage

DEATH STRIKE SHOULD IGNORE ANY KIND OF HEALING REDUCTION EFFECT MS EFFECT AND EVEN DAMPENING 10char

My only feedback for DK Hero Talents is to overhaul the base specs first, before you start building on them with an expansion feature.

Building on a foundation made of sand will never end well.

Its been on a shaky foundation since the start of Shadowlands at the very least.

But San’layn is boring and doesnt bring anything new to the class in terms of class fantasy. I would guarantee none of the Hero Specs are going to do what they want it to with the DK. Mountain Thane at least shakes up Fury. What does San’layn bring that Blood doesnt already do in terms of class fantasy? Nothing.

Its a boring and unneeded. They should go back to the drawing board with ALL of DK’s Hero Talent Specs.

There’s been a lot of different speculation so far, but nothing official that I know of.

The combat mount is practically the only thing that the death knight unit from Warcraft 3 had that Wow’s DK doesn’t have, or didn’t have at one point (as long as you don’t count the Acherus charger). Whether it would be permanent or not is hard to say. If frost and unholy keep their focus on cooldown reduction and needing as much uptime as possible, it’d certainly be convenient for pve if Rider moved at feral druid speed. However, that would probably have a big impact on the pvp side, but I do not know enough about pvp to really comment more than that.

I’ve also heard a reasonable argument that it will be something like a cosmetic node that doesn’t have a whole lot of power, like we’ve seen in some trees (I think it was compared to Dark Ranger’s Disengage snare) and it would work like paladin’s Divine Steed, where it just puts you on an undead horse for the duration of Death’s Advance with a slight increase to the snare resistance since San’layn had an increase to the speed for their DA. Then, the keystone and capstone of the Rider tree focuses on the main form of throughput, whatever that ends up being.

People are talking about Rider all over the place, though. These were only a couple of what I’ve seen discussed when it comes to it being a permanent mount or not.

the main reason to create and play a DK is and has always been the UNHOLY PRESENCE, so bring back this to the game ASAP, ty

Infuses the death knight with unholy fury, increasing attack speed by 15%, movement speed by 15% and reducing the global cooldown on all abilities by 0.5 sec. Only one Presence may be active at a time.

You guys want this as an evergreen feature then you really need things attached to this to make your class stand out, unique graphics or even things like SL had with covenants, unique weapons and armor.
