I just read the article over in the Midnight Beta forum (via a link on Wowhead) about plans for battle pets. Even tho I didn’t play Beta, I’d like to add my two cents, please.
Please don’t scrap pets altogether. I love collecting pets, I love finding them in the wild. I want to buy them from the vendors too, but It seems really hard to collect enough pet battle tokens to do that.
I don’t mind removal of the battle part, sometimes it feels like too much of a grind to level them up to 25.
Well, they haven’t yet, but according to the articles I read (linked) everything is still up in the air, so they very well may decide to scrap it all. I’m just adding my voice to let them know, “Please don’t!”
They can get rid of open world battles in new zones, if they’d like, but I hope some day we can get a new dungeon. I had a surprising amount of fun with those.
Add family battle achievements isn’t really new content. It’s just them saying “hey lol those pet trainers you beat, now go beat them with a team of all dragons.”
Really riveting stuff there, and I’m guessing the reward will be a reskinned pet
I am not a fan of the changes. I would really like to see a new battle pet dungeon or quests like the ones that get you the falcosaur mounts (pet battle training/battling quests using specific pets). At the very least, new trainers to battle. I am not interested in catching the weird new ones that can’t battle, what is even the point? They’re not really battle pets.

While I liked the Falcosaur quests, there was quite the backlash in Legion by ‘mount collectors’ over having to participate in pet battle content to get a mount…
I miss pet battle dungeons though, and I believe not releasing new content for pet battles is about the same thing as scrapping it.
I know if they stopped releasing new raids or dungeons for a new expac and when questioned about it pointed at the legacy dungeons still being there, that would be considered scrapping that content…
Yeah to be honest I have wondered if that’s why there weren’t more. Still, I think it’s cool to have a pet battle specific mount. Similar quests that award an even cooler pet at the end could be an alternative maybe? Haha all I know is I had all 4 going within a few days of each other and it was a fun time getting progressively harder quests for each of them, and I haven’t really seen much of anything similar since.
That’s fine and fair but I think you’ll admit you’re arguing a technicality. It’s like when Hershey changes the wrapper of their chocolate bars and acts like it’s a new thing.
They aren’t removing pet battles but they aren’t adding anything “new,” either imho it’s just archeology all over again
They won’t scrap it because they sell the pets and they are part of the reward structure. What they are likely to do is basically heavily monetize everything about it.
