Feedback: Aldrachi Reaver Demon Hunter

Hunters did not get any talent tree changes the whole of DF and the trees are terrible, before that they got pruned hard after legion and broke the specs and they never really got touched outside of the DF talents that sucked.

I dont think hunters had a dedicated dev at all, at least not until now

Reposting from EU since I can’t post on the beta forums of NA.

Now, I have more feedback about Aldrachi Reaver, I believe this talent needs a lot of work still.

  • Reaver’s Glaive itself is based on the damage of Throw Glaive. Throw Glaive does no damage, by extension Reaver’s Glaive does no damage either. After testing in dummies for close to five minutes, even in situations with cleave, Reaver’s glaive damage is laughably low. This sounds incredibly wrong to me, this should be the high of the hero talent. This is in part caused by the low damage of TG builds in general, which is something that should be looked at.
  • Most of the talents that affect TG (Soulrend, for example) do not work with Reaver’s Glaive. In fact, I think the only talent that works is Accelerated Glaive. Whether this is a bug or not, I don’t know, but also looks is incredibly antisinergystic.
  • All the damage this tree provides are focused on two things, Reaver’s Mark and Art of the Glaive. All the other nodes (Preemptive Strike, for example) feel like fodder, and serve no purpose.
  • It is extremely worrying that Reaver’s Mark, after the changes to it’s duration, can be close to 100% uptime on a single target. It’s a 30% damage amplification. There’s absolutely nothing that can compete in Single Target with this option in the Fel Scarred tree. In fact, it’s so strong that it trivializes everything that Aldrachi offers to the point that the optimal way of playing is always doing exactly the same thing (RG → BDance → CS).
On top of this, Reaver’s mark being a single target debuff will create friction with Havoc’s niche, which is doing AoE while doing ST and being good at prio damage. It’s basically a discount Nemesis, and that’s something that was hated with passion in the past.
I would reconsider reworking Reaver’s Mark to do something else instead, else this tree is going to be extremely binary and boring.
  • Souls are still an incredibly clunky and wonky resource to play around, and we as Havocs would like to avoid it whenever possible.
  • Openers are insanely clunky in the current iteration. Havoc only has access to 5 souls on pull (Soul Sigils + Sigil of Spite and Sigil of Flame). With how strong Reaver’s Mark is as its current tuning, it feels incredibly bad to start your opener without having it up prior to that.
Please, give us access to a talent that allows us to have a Reaver’s Glaive on pull.

Dh is not the most popular class. It is however the most popular mining/herb alt. The numbers are quite likely inflated.

Can someone explain to me what exactly is happening with AR? Now we have 2 damage windows in the same HT?

Havoc Aldrachi Reaver = micro damage windows / damage windows managmen gameplay + 2 RNG dependent damage windows + a total of 7 windows (Demonic + Inertia/momentum + Essb + Initiative + Metamorphosis + Reaceres Mark + Thrill of the Fight)

What is the purpose of all this? lead us even more to depend on Addons or generate such an overload on us that we stop trying to properly play the damage windows managmen? I honestly can’t see the point of this.

Reaven’s mark debuff ,15% increased damage will cover 30% although 30% haven’t run out of time.
Maybe it can be changed into something like “15% won’t cover/refresh remaining time” in order to keep high ST Vulnerability

Chaos Theory and Relentless onslaught has been useless since DF even 10.2 ptr haven’t change the situation.
Maybe new 4pc is a good chance to enhance these talents , let chaos theory/relentless onslaught make chaos strike more cool and great again please
Please please please

The changes today are nice, but I still see 0 reason to ever use Blade Dance 2nd. A single blade dance doing 120% additional damage instead of 60% isn’t a big enough buff to compete with 30% more overall damage for 20 seconds. You can do at least three blade dances in that time, even with no haste. I think the extra slashes of blade dance is a really cool enhancement, but it’s severely undertuned for a combo that is meant to have a meaningful choice.
Edit: I am aware extra slashes are more Aoe, but fel scarred is clearly tailored to Aoe encounters, so I don’t see a point in using Alrachi Reaver in an Aoe scenario besides cleave.

AoE, as the extra slashes are uncapped AoE.

However, I’d imagine at that point you’d just play Fel Scarred, so you’re not entirely wrong.

Easy fix to the souls issue:

Splintered Souls (Passive Ability): Every time you shatter a soul fragment from your enemy, gain a stack of Soul Splinters. Reaver’s Glaive requires 6 Soul Splinters to be cast.

New changes seem to me a step in the right direction, maybe just change tuning for BD enhancements.

Havoc AR Feedback from someone who basically only plays Havoc:

  • We’re tired of throwing glaives, I don’t know anyone that either mains havoc or that has even touched the spec that seriously enjoys it or think it’s engaging. It’s been something that’s been missing from havoc since the start of SL (everyone’s favorite addition to the game the mob cap on max dmg.)

  • Death Sweeps/BD and Chaos Strike/AH actually doing something feels great especially with Evasive Action VR.

  • Forcing Havoc off of doing damage (I mean stationary just straight pumping like if you were on a target dummy, M+ boss when there’s no mechanics going on or a raid boss with no mechanics going on as well) and having to try and collect souls though blows, the movement as is was already clunky with trying to get max damage output with inertia, momentum, etc. (Fel Rush still bugged since BFA KEKW.) Movement being a core part of Demon Hunter is amazing and really fun to play… when you’re not just throwing glaives and doing nothing impactful besides pressing Death Sweep because 90% of your damage is going to becoming from trinkets or overtime effects anyways.

  • Thrill of the Fight should be Haste and Atk Spd, along with the damage/healing increase, would make obtaining Thrill of the Fight more impactful by being able to do more in a short period of time (which Havoc already does and then sits and waits for eye beam.)

  • Returning more of the class identity that was taken away with the start of BFA or Shadowlands would be a good fit into the Aldrachi tree since it just seems very out of place and extremely out of touch from what the players actually want. I’d even EXTREMELY ENCOURAGE IF THROW GLAIVE IS STILL GOING TO BE A CORE PART OF ALDRACHI REAVER, PUT. THE. THROW. GLAIVE. TIER SET. INTO. THE. HERO TALENT ABILITY POOL. As a wise man once said (a few bullets before this one), throwing glaives is awful, but being free from having to do that and allowing Havoc to have better use of Haste with the Damage Boosts and procs would be god-sent.

  • Move Warblade’s Hunger up and have it so Soul Fragments pull in towards you to make having to go on a goose chase not exist.

  • The tree just needs more OOMPH in general, it’s missing a lot because its trying to do too much in too little for a spec that already feels like its doing too much for too little.

(This is just my take as mainly a M+ Andy that does Mythic Raid on anything other than Havoc now, don’t take it too seriously I can’t have Ion and the Goon Squad coming after me)

what they should do is have the top passive in the reaver hero tree replace chaos strike with throw glaive.

this now would do 2.tbings for glaive

  1. takes away glaive charges, that is now governed by rltue same resource that governed chaos strike

  2. makes the reaver spec a mid range zoner

I’m looking at aldrachi reaver as talents for ST boss damage. You could in theory use blade dance second on aoe pulls but want Reavers Mark for bigger boss damage. It might also line up better for essence break windows since it’ll be up for 20s. It does mean holding art of the glaive till an essence break window is ready.

For multi cleave target fights it, it could be worth holding again because of the aoe uncapped damage.

20s 30% damage window sounds pretty amazing though. It might not be great for mythic+ because it might be wasted if everything dies whereas Fury of the Aldrach might be amazing on large pulls.

Aldrachi reaver really needs either a 1: a 20sec CD on the reavers glaive throw (not needing to collect souls as having to dodge boss mechanics and collect souls to enable a difficult to align damage amp window) or 2: make it that an ability like blade dance pulls all nearby souls within 30 yards to us! or 3: at the very least any soul fragments that spawn count towards reavers mark without having to collect then all up

If they like aldrachi reaver and the damage amp window, can we get rid of essence break? Glaive tempest and fel bombardment I think are more fun.

I just hate that 4s spam window then do mediocre damage for 40s.

It’s in a terrible place with 19 GCD’s to open? This sounds fun?! I would bet 1,000,000 Gold if it stays the way it is, it will be the least played spec even below Survival! Even as much as Hunter as been ignored, i’m more excited to play that, at least class fantasy and play-styles are actually considered, this dev, I don’t even know what to say at this point. It’s almost bordering on ludacris!

I’ve mained demon hunter since legion and honestly don’t find the playstyle fun anymore. I used to love havoc, but am getting over the momentum/inertia essence break play style. Having to literally zip around everywhere is just getting annoying. I do love vengeance, but also think it’s going to be sub par this next expansion to other tanks due to it performing so well in dragon flight.

Idk where your getting that info from cause veng and other tanks performance rn is stricting based on beta numbers which is gigA sus to base a spec on.

Also I can’t believe one expansion where movement was the focus broke so many people after years of no movement. Legit gigA week sauce

your reaching

movement hasn’t been a staple of havoc since the first half of legion. From then till mid SL we were not movement focused like we are now. People hated momentum in legion and still hate it now.

furthermore they hate all their damage being in small windows (Shatter combos) where if they slip up once they are screwed for the rest of the encounter.

Fel Blade seems like a really odd choice to consume soul fragments as Havoc. There are too many times when Fel Blade can get you killed, even with the 10% damage reduction in AR. It’s also a fairly RNG ability with how it procs.

A better choice, in my opinion, would have been Blade Dance. It even fits better thematically as you are dashing around very quickly in all directions.

It would also be nice if they could be consumed while they are still airborne instead of having to wait for them to land on the ground. The extra time it takes for them to land feels punishing.

puting a soul vacuum on blade dance would be cringe, cause youd be using your strongest hitting ability to activate your reaver amp instead of having it benefit from your reaver amp. felblade is a nice choice, alternative option is felrush but people would hate that even tho i personally would love it
