So, I say this knowing that, right “no one uses that lolol”.
I was on one of my hunters, and went to use Feed Pet. I think initially it was one of the new horses. Things didn’t work, which, you know, fine. New animal family, maybe some kinks need to be worked out. But then, I tried a cat. And not a new one. I mean Humar, one I had back before the Cataclysm. I had some Grilled Saberfish, and got the error message “Your pet doesn’t like that food”.
Which was…odd, because he liked that before. But it’s prepared food, so maybe something weird happened. Then, I want to a vendor, and bought some fish. Got the same message.
I keep getting that message on different pets, with different foods. This is after casting Beast Lore on them to make sure there wasn’t some new change I wasn’t privy to.
Has this been happening to anyone else? Or are all of my pets suddenly become picky eaters, waging a hunger strike to remind me to play my hunters more? I don’t know why they would unionize like that.
One reason i still use “Feed Pet” is because it instantly heals for like 50% of the pets health, which is useful when you’re leveling and doing things you have no business doing. Also, to reward them for doing well.

My bet is that this is a squish related bug. I haven’t used Feed Pet in literal years, but IIRC that was the same message you got if you tried to give your pet food that was too low level.
I’d report it as such.
Those foods all got squished down to level 10 now right?

I’m talking about stuff I buy in Stormshield. Some of the new stuff, too, like…I think mangos?
I figure it’s also a squish bug. I mean, a bug related to the squish, not a bug that has been squished.

Yeah, probably a squish thing.
According to Petopia, food has a “level” (but you need an addon to see this) and they won’t eat anything too far below them but should eat things higher level.
Given that I’m playing without a class and Mend Pet is kind of meh, I thought I’d give Feed Pet a go between mobs to top off pet health but like you I couldn’t find anything that my pet would/could actually eat.
I’ve noticed it, too. I’ve seen something similar before, when my pet and I level up, and the food’s enough of a lower level. But since 9.0, I’m seeing it on pets whose levels are right there with the food level. And it doesn’t seem to matter what pet. Heck, I even had Hati refuse food that was specifically made and sold to feed Hati.

I would’ve thought that, but usually (or back when it happened), you’d get a message saying “That food is not a high enough level for your pet”.
This is the same message you get if you try to, like, feed your ravager some berries. And this even happens with food that’s a high enough level that I don’t recognize it. (I don’t know when they started selling plump figs, but I’m not going to turn one down)
This is good to know. That’s one reason I think it has to be a bug. I mean, I hadn’t played my hunter in a while, and was briefly wondering if the pets were trying to guilt me with a hunger strike. Or, worse, were planning on saving their appetites for the time they decided to turn against me, and then the world.

Last I checked mech pets can’t even eat those robo-mechanical guts, you know the thing specifically designed for them to eat. Blizzard has simply forgotten about this feature I’m fairly sure.

This is still happening. None of my hunter pets, on my two hunter toons, will eat. This includes things that prior to the level squish, were at their level. I’ve tried higher and lower foods, different foods in their list, etc. Nothing. Every time, “Your pet doesn’t like this food.”
So much for a quick heal after a battle.

I don’t understand why my tenacity pet doesn’t like the bread, fruit, cheese, etc… i try to feed it with food from Traveler Tundra Mammoth when “beast lore” says it should like it. I tried submitting ticket on this & 1st response i got from a GM that didn’t understand about issue said he just leveled hunter on Classic ( when i submitted ticket i mentioned my “retail realm = Turalyon” not a classic realm. Also my mount doesn’t exist on Classic. He was talking about level of food & level of pet. Next response i got from different GM said he could find no issues & to check WOW forums ( apparently he didn’t see this one ) & Wowhead & to submit Bug Report. I don’t have this issue with my ferocity pet eating meat from trader / vendors or kills so i feel this GM wasn’t clear either about issue
I’m having the same problem with foods I know for a fact I could feed them in BFA. Not sure if there is anything I can feed them. It is nice for running around questing.
Have you tried feeding them meat yet? I have Hunters on both Horde and Alliance, and regardless of what Beast Lore says my current pet’s diet is supposed to be, the only thing they’ll accept now is meat. Anything other than meat produces that same error message: “Your pet doesn’t like that food.”
I have had trouble with food being too low an Ilvl for my pet.
When I say food, I mean it was a pc. of meat, a crafting ingredient.
The day before it had been fine.
So, what I did was try feeding my pet a crafted food, something I had bought for me, for the food buff.
Worked fine.
Now, my pet eats better than I do, and more often.
all of my pets no matter what ‘food’ they are supposed to like, now eat Meat. So I’m using some bfa and shadowlands steak looking meats and even my unicorns eat it. yay heals?
