I would say letting someone who doesn’t play design the shadowlands systems on a spreadsheet using a flowchart.

Covenant Sanctums.
Nice idea… but could of been much, much better.

The end game zone that is the MaW.
And to not make it seem like all of SL but Torghast was a flop IMO.

I feel that all the flops I am about to list, could have been amazing aspects of the game, if they were not half done and rushed to launch.

Scenarios
Warfronts
Island Expeditions
Torghast
Azerite Armor
Essences
Heart of Azeroth
Covenants
Soulbinds
Conduits
Renown
Legendary Armor (Shadowlands Crafted)
Legendary Items (Legion. Were corrected with the vendor later)
Proving Grounds
8.3 World Content. Not a flop, just disappointing.
BfA’s Use of Azshara and N’zoth in one patch each.
The Jailer
The Maw
Vash’ir and the underwater zones

When they first previewed soulbinds, I thought for sure it meant that we were going to have another in-the-world buddy again like WoD and esp Legion.

Seriously missed opportunity.

I like Vashj’ir

Warfronts.

Absolutely nothing in Shadowlands is even remotely close to the cataclysmic failure that was Warfronts last expansion.

This iteration of the mission table is the worst so far. What a turd.

The whole PVP system

Hot take: The Great Vault / Weekly Chest and its interaction with M+.

This (along with the neutering of the drop rate in M+) ruined the excitement of M+ rewards entirely. Look anywhere you want, your guild, forums, Discord, etc: People will say “Did you get your 10?”

People aren’t running M+ for the actual gear that drops in it anymore because the item level isn’t competitive for the effort put in for that particular level, and the amount that drops is so anemic that the time effort just isn’t there. when you combine this with the inflated item level that comes from the vault for running M+, that becomes the only source of progression for M+ for most people. it slows gear progression to a trickle and turns M+ into a chore.

The solution could be as simple as no longer inflating the item level that shows up in the weekly vault from M+, massively increasing the drop rate from M+, and maybe putting a minor bump in the item level (6-10 levels maybe) on each tier. Now when you run an M+, the reward at the end might actually be useful! The weekly chest would feel the way that it does for raiders and PVP: simply one more free item that matches the item level they can get any day of the week.

This started in BFA but this gets my vote.

I know its unfair to judge it before its out but Legion M+ TW will be a waste.

Know a lot of people have a nostalgia bone for Legion M+ but

I struggled to think of anything that did work this expansion.

Shadowlands seems to me the point everything came unglued: game mechanics, what was left of the story after BfA, then even Blizzard itself.

The only thing I can think of that seemed well-received was the raid with Denathrius (I can’t remember the name, didn’t do it). I don’t recall reading much bad about that, I think I saw only or mostly positive things about it. Oh! Except for loot. It was stingy on loot, but that’s more a Shadowlands thing overall.

I’ve not seen almost anything about the 2nd raid (“Sanctum”). No news is good news there maybe.

Who ever greenlit this mess.

Sanctum upgrades.

I upgraded them on my main character just for the sake of it and because I had the extra anima and for the achieve but beyond the mission table I’ve used none of them. I used the ‘pick a point of attack’ thingy a few times but it’s usefulness was short lived.

The conduits do help but… really, is that really necessary, why not just make those traits attached to the abilities classes/specs already have???

I think everything beyond gold and gear is a flop, it’s why they get rid of all of it after each expansion.

Everything after Legion.

Non snark answer: maw until mounting and torghast always.

Snark answer: ion

Uh, I’ve tried 2/4 of the Covenant “side” activities, but PoA was pointless feeling garbage to the point I did the first fight then decided to not go any further and QC was “Push button, receive bacon: now with timegating” so I never bothered on my RD or MD toons.

It’s a huge gold earner if you bother to send out missions every day on multiple toons, going for raw gold and mats. I make more per week than I did in BfA or Legion.

It flopped because it is bugged, unfinished, and unbalanced. It could be fixed with tuning or a few simple changes.
