Favorite Tank?

Really enjoy the snappy-ness of Warrior. Nothing better than stomping and shield smacking.

Brewmaster

Brew is my favorite to play, followed by BDK, but Prot Warrior does the work of other tanks with about 80% less brain cells to do it. Press shield slam+thunderclap, ignore pain. Ignore pain. Ignore pain. Ignore pain.

Admittedly, I have lesser experience as a Tank in general than I do as a pure DPS, but when I do play my alts, I enjoy Bear and Brewmaster.

Bear-Drood is easy enough, pretty straightforward but I feel like it also has a pretty complete kit and decent control options. Swipe and the current Moonfire interjection really make gathering fairly easy amid mechanics and swirlies. Vortex provides a nice control mechanism where I can get mobs grouped and forced to stay put for a couple-few seconds. If I need to kite a bit, I can Typhoon some mobs away and gain a couple seconds as well, barring needing to swap kitty for sprint or Stampeding Roar for a group movement buff.

Brewmaster is fun too, but I feel like it can be bit awkward at some points when preparing your pulls/gathering with the purifying brew/celestial brew sort of needing to be done just before you engage/as you do which can delay gathering a gcd or two more than some DPS are used to. I do like RoP but I do sometimes wish my Brew had Vortex instead and the Drood had RoP, because you could stand in it and Typhoon out of/off of it if that were the case but anyway… The BrM feels incredibly mobile but at the same time I would prefer some of our attacks to not be as restrictive with facing. As much as I’m moving around and repositioning I get a lot of facing interruptions to my attacks and have to face-up and repeat the same attack that didn’t land the previous global.

Then there’s the few times a tier I roll off a platform on some boss on accident… that’s always fun too, but I do get a kick out of ToD when you can land it for a pretty sizable hit.

I’ve played Prot Pally in the past but not since like, WoD or MoP in anything relatively competitive. I didn’t mind it too bad, SoTR is/has seemingly always been incredibly strong as well for them, but their kit was so vast it was a bit daunting to master their uses in their respective occasions. Like someone else said up above though, I wasn’t the biggest fan of the Clang/Clank/Clang of nearly all pally moves.

Bear, theyre simple and tanky, without a particular niche theyre kinda at the mercy of tuning so not often meta but theyve never had a problem living.
Currently bear does not die to mobs, it dies of old age widdling down trash with its low damage, but even then doesnt seem to ever have threat problems even with the really bursty classes which is nice this season. Theyre easy to heal, pretty self sufficient and id guess its the simplicity but i never really have bad ones, at worse theyre mediocre to heal, but compared to a bad bdk or Ppally theyre still a dream.

I just wish they gave it that off heal niche it had in dragonflight back, the talents are so under-tuned and the class tree so poorly built you cant really justify taking them.

Prot warr ofc :dracthyr_love_animated: Honorable mention to Blood for being unique and bear for being bulletproof

Paladin no doubt. For so many things. I get giddy just doing divine toll.

Warriors are cool, and I think when folks say tank most will think “Prot Warrior” right?

That said if you enjoy the role, then Pally is like playing a toolbox on wheels, lotsa fun!

I like Blood DK, but recently playing Protection Paladin more and NGL I’m really enjoying myself. I find if I can survive and do interrupts the overall run just feels so much smoother.

Something that adds a few more points to Paladin is that it’s very spec-swap friendly compared to any of the other tanks I field.

Druid is always my favorite tank. Followed by paladin, DK, warrior, DH and finally Brew.

I like to tank so I got one of every class that can, but I love to Druid tank, so I have one of every race that can Druid. :slightly_smiling_face:

  1. Brew
  2. Prot War
  3. Blood
  4. Probably Vengeance
  5. Probably Bear
  6. Gap
  7. Large Gap
  8. Larger Gap
  9. Prot Paladin

Warrior then Pally. Druid tank is ez but less fun / challenging .

BrM Monk, but it’s notably different than other tanks due to Stagger and how it works.

Mountain thane prot warrior, dear lord those things can’t die even if they try, even in +14 keys.

I have always appreciated the M-1. Itʻs big and beefy and just looks dangerous.

yep.

and this is why Vengeance is my favorite.

Blood dk is definitely my favorite to play.

Vengeance comes in second.

I haven’t really seriously tried tanking in a good while, so I’m either gonna get a lot of hate, a lot of love, a lot of confusion, or a mixture of all three with the following:

Bring back Dual-Wield Frost DK tanking!

Paladin is my favorite tank- the way the Avengers Shield works as an interrupt is awesome. The self heals and cool downs are reliable. And they always have bubble to clear stacks of bad, or just pull through a boss kill if they are the last one left alive.

Runner up is Blood DK, mostly for Death Grip and the various other Yanks/Yoinks they provide. I love the way Death Strike works as a self heal. All the defensives are outrageous - fear break, stun break, all damage, magic damage.

I have a Druid and a Monk and a Warrior I tank with on occasion but they aren’t as fun to Tank. They don’t have any abilities that make me feel like anything more than a punching bag that can taunt.

I have all six tank specs pushing towards 650 plus as a non raider non mplus player, and it’s interesting how strong they all get as the gear gets better but in different ways. But until around 650 you will feel either not tanky enough or not dps enough. They are all easily sufficient tho for anything that’s not the absolute hardest content.
