Fave drummers

Same here, brother. Tool has and always will be my fave band, for several reasons. And Danny is simply amazing on the drums, and there’s tons of “danny vs lars” or him vs portney…but no matter how I hear them, I hear the science that is Danny’s precision, and power and it’s a win everytime.

Lars,…plz, I guess someone had to bring his name up. Lars is great because of Metallica, Metallica is NOT great because of Lars.

He is good, at best.

The Great Metal Drummers, the names Dave Lombardo, Danny Carey and Vinnie Paul are instantly front and center.

Honorable mention, Gar Samuelson, died way before his time.

any list that doesn’t have danny carey in the #1 spot is objectively wrong

I have hard time agreeing with that, BUT I have a hard time disagreeing with it too.

Dead on. One of my buddies loved Lars and I kept saying in a whisper like: Danny is better. lol pissed him off!

Lars isn’t bad but not great, either. And he’s cocky.

Hence why he’s not up there with my greats and is merely an honorable mention. He’s never been a technically proficient drummer and he’s never shied away from the truth of if. But to deny his influence is utterly petty.

Interesting not seeing Donati, Mangini, Portnoy or Bruford (or maybe I missed them)?

I’ve also seen Ginger’s son, Kofi Baker, with a local lazz fusion band, Ohm, and the nut does not fall far from the tree.

God, Jeff Porcaro…champion of the half-time shuffle.

Freaking Toto, man. Why can’t more studio pros who work the circuits get together and make great bands?

Lukather and Paich working with Michael on Thriller. Love how involved in multiple genres they were.

Good names, been a while since I heard them. Portnoy was mentioned but way up on here lol

Porcaro was good, but he learned his shuffle from Bernard Purdie.

Another one I forgot: Jason Rullo. And I have to put Russell as one of the best male vocalist. Symphony X is awesome.

Oh! And how could we forget Future Man!

I put Portnoy in my mentions. Thought about Mangini but he’s just so…academic in his approach and it shows when he performs with DT. It just didn’t resonate as much with me. No doubt Mangini is a Technical monster though.

Having seen X live multiple times, his voice is on point. Great performing band!
