Faster Legendary Cloak Upgrades

Thanks! I played a short while (like a week) in 2014 or something like that and then I played classic for a month with some friends. But I just actually started regular wow so I know a few basics (just reached level 110) but i constantly google everything to figure stuff out lol

But the PVP scaling thing is extremely weird to me and i have no idea who at blizzard thought it would be smart to make it so level 120 green item players should be just slightly weaker than 120 full raid type gear players… lol? I mean i get constantly ganked and camped on by lvl 120s as a 110 and I fully expect me to have to ask for help in world chat if I’m unable to get away. No big deal, it’s a few seconds of running back to my body. It’s not like I’m losing my gear if I die… lol (I obviously play with warmode on because i love pvp and feel like the only reason to play games is to play against others)

Now I’m finding out that even if I spend months grinding for raid gear with a big guild, I’m not going to be able to be some insane monk that can take 3-4 fresh 120s on at a time, i’m only going to be slightly better than one and will probably die against two.

I’m a mostly solo player and that’s extremely disappointing to me. Having on warmode should mean that if someone will great gear attacks me, i die. If I spend weeks or months doing content I hate (raids with dozens of others) to farm great gear so I can have my type of fun (solo pvping) I find out it’s pointless lol

Theres a guy on youtube, forgot his name at the moment but he has dozens of videos showing how he can abuse the scaling to one shot people. I have NO IDEA how this will be beneficial for new players. Instead of working hard to gear up and fight people, you instead have to basically look for exploits in blizzards coding to win. Who in their right mind thought that this system was better for new players? Now I spend months gearing up only to get one shot by someone who figured out that blue ilvl 278 gear with companion trinkets using a certain potion can one shot someone due to scaling I have no idea existed. Some how people think it is MORE FAIR that way. (LOL?) So now instead of playing I have to scour math calculations to figure out what to wear to maximize my chances.

I wish they would just remove scaling altogether, and this is coming from someone NEW who WANTS TO GRIND AND PLAY YOUR GAME but sees NO POINT gearing when I should be learning how to exploit the system.

I find it hard to believe that ANYONE outside of a tiny tiny percent of people wants to feel less powerful as they become more geared. I find it hard to believe that ANYONE would rather “fair fights” with green gear versus the top end raid gear instead of being able to WORK HARD and potentially 1v3 one day.

I literally DIDN’T MIND being killed and camped because 1. I have war mode on, I expected that to happen and 2. I envisioned one day being able to turn the tables on those that camped me when i surpassed their gear.

I’m not great at pvp and I’m not great at tab target type games, however I thought with enough work I would be able to get gear that made up for my lack of skill. Now I find out that’s not the case.

Feels terrible man

yeah idk man. id just wait for shadow lands to do anything not worth the grind at this point

Do you need to unlock the rank 15 transmog before shadowlands or nah?

but we need Echoes to buy corruption, do you guys even play your game? i returned 2 weeks ago already have lvl 15 cloak, what im waiting for os the correct corruption to apear in the vendor again, you fixed the wrong thing, and not only that players who utilize these Cores will just be hampering themselves in thier ability to purchase corruptions, like really blizz ask someone who actually plays the game before you decide to fix things. like why do i need a lvl 15 cloak right now, when my corruption isnt even in the game till the end of the month???

But you still have to do the mind-numbingly boring assaults to get 2,000 echoes…

Agreed, not to tell Blizzard we told you so … but tying this to echoes was/is a mistake.

Now that we know the release date of SL, it means we can guess the pre-patch date too (last week of Sept/first week of October) most likely.

So really grinding out your cloak was a waste of time as of last month considering the consistent sources of echo currency.

You need 15 visions runs minimum at ~3-4 per week given currency restrictions.

25 malefic cores not counting the 2 “free ones” you get for nzoth + first vision.

On top of the insane amount of echoes you need just to buy the corruption you want … which quite honestly is very likely if you don’t pick up this week (or last week) it may never come back on rotation.

Now we could argue … “oh this happens at the end of every expac” … but even in Legion your legendaries were useful while leveling up to 115. They didn’t just become DOA immediately on pre-patch.

It was said at the beginning tying this to echoes was a mistake given how many things competed for this currency.

They should have allowed more malefic cores to drop either on different difficulties of nzoth, or on every full vision clear, and not just the first one.

So yeah, if you started in August … “tough break kiddo” guess you just wasted all your time.

Thing is though, the only people that were really affected by this were the min/maxers that wanted specific corruptions.

I have 3 full 32 slot bags full of gear right now, most of it corruption, and I didn’t spend a single echo on a corruption.

I was saving all mine to buy the essences I didn’t have yet and the rest were on cores or vision vessels.

Umm what?

You don’t need to be a min/maxer to want a specific corruption. The power disparity between the “right” one and an arbitrary one is massive.

Probably took quite a while to acquire it. It is also likely all over the place on slot/stats. So not much of a “catch up” if that is what it would take.

Couple months tops. I was doing a lot of keys, a lot of visions, and raiding weekly. Pretty easy to amass that much gear in a small space of time.

That’s the literal definition of min/maxing. Wanting specific stats in specific slots rather than taking what you get and working with that. The entire “buy your corruption” thing was designed with min/maxing in mind, because people were complaining about the RNG involved.

Wearing the “appropriate” gear is not min/maxing. Corruptions are the biggest power creep we’ve gotten to date. Higher than legion legendaries I would say.

so with the cloak being max today after the reset should we expect anything regarding corruptions?

the cloak is just one part of the cake in the bad decisions for finishing this expansion.

Hopefully shadowlands will mark the end of Blizzard releasing worthless broken content only to fix it months later.

“Appropriate” is a relative term.

If you were chasing corruptions, you were min/maxing. That is LITERALLY what min/maxing is. It’s no different than saying “I need BiS everything”. If you were looking for BiS corruptions as well… I think you see where this is going.

Nope, only for the corruption to eventually be gone completely.

They will likely give us a couple of weeks to play with having max cloaks then nuke the whole thing in preparation for Shadowlands.

As somebody who just recently got their cloak (as of this reply), I agree. I am mostly a solo player and am finding it difficult this late in the game to find people to do visions with. I can’t do them solo, so… whatever. Guess mine will remain rank 1.

I cant even stand to do them to get to rank 15… the content is just so boring.

No you are not. That is like arguing that chasing weapons with spellpower as a caster back in TBC was “min/maxing” and not doing so as a melee was “min/maxing”.

Just because Blizzard makes the system convoluted doesn’t mean you need to min/max to use it properly.

Min/max’ing is usually about squeaking out every tiny bit of performance you can. Massive 12%+ secondary stat bonuses from corruptions is hardly a “tiny bit”. IS doing 25-40% of your damage is not a “tiny bit”.

There were massive power gaps between corruptions. Choosing the “right” ones was not about min/maxing it was literally just playing the game properly.

Min/maxing would be grinding out that extra neck level in islands despite DR to be 5 ilvls ahead than the average up-to-date person.

Which is EXACTLY what “getting the right corruptions” is!

Thank you for proving my point. I’m moving on now.

Lol, alright then. You are right we won’t see eye to eye on this and it’s best to not bother.

Does a fully upgraded cloak really matter once SL drops?

No. There is no corruption to resist. It’ll just be a stat back that you bank as soon as your first or second SL quest gives you a better green.
