First are there any prerequisite quests before looking for them or the matriarch?
Second the pets don’t stay pets ? You raise them to be mounts ? Is this correct ?
You get both the pets and mounts, the pets don’t change into the mounts.
The only prereq was killing the matriarch during the wq, but you could go back when the wq wasn’t up and bring the right food to the right place.
Then you do the daily quests. You have to summon each pet to get it’s daily. You could do the dailies for each one of the same day. And if you did them every day on one character, a month later you could pick up a mount.
The pet battle Team Rumble took about a week to do all of them because legion pet battle wq could not be repeated on the same character. I hear it’s possible to use multiple characters since the pets are account bound.

This is not correct. They are battle pets and battled pets they remain. You eventually get a mount from this. Following the lore of the storyline, the mount you get is your battle pet’s mother.
