⚔ Faction Imbalance: Why not mirror racials?

It’s too late for numbers to change the raiding population. Racials that have been released have been alliance favoured in the allied races. The issue is that unless a racial comes around on a popular race that is as good as mana torrent was in Legion; we will see no major changes. The racial tuning nowadays are just too close to realistically change anything in the imbalance issue; because, the hard core raiders have moved to the horde due to population issues. Minor enticements to go alliance will never outweight the price of faction changing an entire guild. Even if mechagnomes kept the 400 stat buff nothing would have changed because mechagnomes aren’t popular.

I’ve said it before, but the best situation is to do away with faction based guild systems and change the system to be more akin to a faction like the cenarion circle. The faction could either be set as a joint race faction or it could be horde or alliance specific like the frostwolves or stormpikes. Makes PvE crossfaction as it should be and makes pvp not crossfaction as it should be. Changing the system allows people to play the races that they want to play without being forced to pick horde or alliance.

I play races cuz I like them not cuz of racials. I love space goats pandas and trolls racials are just bonus that I get. I dont even think about them when picking a class to speak of. Well maybe I lied a little I decided to make my allied elf thing a caster cuz they make good casters cuz of the magic dmg thing but I was gona make one of those anyway so it didnt mater to me if it was horde or ally. I made the ally void elf too. I cant even tell you what the racials are for it. If you want to talk about racials I wish I had I know how often I wish I had shadow meld on my hunter in bgs so I could drop combat when fein death was on cd so I could camo.

The funny thing was, for a long time, from Vanilla to TBC to WoD, the Horde were the underdog race, EMFH, pre honor talents was one of the most powerful arena talents in the game and most of the quote ‘attractive races’. People naturally love seeing ‘brute’ races fight and brawl, but for your player character people naturally tend to play the ones they find nicest/coolest to look at.

From Undead Dks, nelves, female draenei, female pandaren, etc. Humans in pvp were always very powerful with a proper pilot behind them. They used to have a free pvp trinket on a 2 min cd for all content back before talents which meant a second trinket slot, opening up 3-20% more burst dps could be used on your “KILL” phase to completely burn down people. All the leading pvp teams were humans despite blizz even putting triple the pvp stats on trinkets. +900 agility, + 1400 versatility/resilence, etc. Humans however used another trinket slot and pwned.

But it was fair that for a mass bgs, Alli attracted more casual players, Horde more pvp oriented/competitive players as a player who played 6-13 toons on both in WoD. (I got RaFed onto horde, and liked Frostfire ridge’s story, but the community on Ally Moonguard just has no horde equivalent that exists lol and gnomish druid cannibalism fests vs Orc tribes mud hut rp or random cat clans vs Dragon clans shennaigans ensuing.

I think the main problem is, although technically for Myhic invitationals, ally with the power of coordination and mics can take advantage of racials like meld, they’re still extremely situational unless the whole group has them and aren’t very useful in a random chaotic pug box.

Raidwise however, horde gets more concentrated bursts (Orc mini bloodlusts), that gave them 3 week leads on rank 1 ally guilds, while others that transfered (explicity for racials, even with existing players) all agreed that goblin rockets and orc lusts let them burn things down, and Belfs old racial silence being op for mythics while Ally’s useful racials.

(EMFH, Stoneskin), were in WoD left untouched with blizz nerfing them from 45% horde 55% ally for “class balance”, and wo and behold, the 10% of racial chasers went to 55% horde, 45% ally.

A simple, but balanced option would be to say do a customizable talent system where you could earn equivilents of the other racials’s perks through pvping / pveing or rep grinding. Say, grinding honored on Gnomeregan/Goblins could give you a mirrored rocket jump and escape artist and vice aversa, and various racials could be tweaked lightly or additional more useful ones added. (Etc: Bloodgore: Worgen: For the next 30 seconds, you have 15% more haste/crit etc. )

OFC, that assumes the current faction imbalance is unintentional. Guessing by Ion on High elves not caring to player feedback or hype by saying “If you want to play a blue eyed elf, just play horde, i’m not bothering with ally.” He’s a one trick Orc shaman of a guild called literally “Elitist jerks”, Which does do mythic raids and very little else. It’s not unknown for him to go into a raid and wipe 3 times before nerfing it to hell for his group to pass it lol.

That’s the way of a game dev, if the content is too hard to do, except through severe game breaking/ creative use of mechanics, make it impossible for all the other players and nerf it for yourself when you get there lol. I’m not saying i wouldn’t do the same, or my 10 year old younger cousin on a tabletop, but im not the game dev of a multi billion falling once king mmorpg now am i?

Yep. I play on that server and any time I try and run my worgen in a BG I usually regret it. Most of the players don’t bother with tactics or coordination, they just zerg, zerg, zerg. Whenever I ask what they are doing they usually reply with something nasty. Hence why I don’t bother with Alliance anymore. Their attitude in game pretty much matches their attitude on the forums.

When playing Korrak with my Undead DK, I’d say Horde wins about 4 out of every 5 times since the badge nerf. Before that the fights were tough , would take up to a few hours and it was usually a toss up on who would win. Now it’s over in 45 minutes at best. For some reason Alliance still likes wasting time in the mines and don’t even bother trying to stop us from taking graveyards near their base. They just run right past us. Then they wonder why they lose.

That’s only because alliance will just move on to something else to blame for an imaginary imbalance. It’s what alliance does best.

Racials have a far greater affect than people give them credit for, WOD shows just how much a small racial advantage can shake things up. Racials affect the faction progress and skill indirectly. Top end players, where racials really matter, switch factions in order to gain the edge needed to compete at high end content. The fanboys wanting to be like their idols/streamers follow creating an imbalance.

This sudden changes create negative effects for the less favorable racials, such as loss of win rates less high end raiding… etc. This results in even more players leaving the said faction to progress in pve/pvp.

The best example of this was in WOD when Alliance racials became superior to horde racials. The Winrates before WOD was 55% to 45%, in favor of the horde, but after the dwarf buff combined with human racial the winrate of the horde went down to an extreme low 35%, which is how mercenary mode was introduced to balance out the winrates and reduce queue times.

A better idea is to flip the racials between factions; that would be fun.

sounds like more of a people problem then a racial problem. The world first no life people dont really mater and the game should not be designed around them. People that fan boy and then copy them isnt an excuse either. If they do anything with racials maybe they should add to the classic race racials to make them in line with the allied races.

I don’t care what they do, but I’m telling you how it works. Racials have a far bigger impact than you give them credit for.
WOD and Legion are great supporting evidence.

Everyone already knows, they just pretend like racials doesn’t matter. There’s only one reason all the top raiding guilds are horde. The best players know and everyone follows.

A pretty big portion of us chose Horde in the first place because of its aesthetic.

Haha what dew smokin’ 'mon? I Be a ugly blue troll bruddah, ain’t no pretty form but meh lion form!

Such changes would only further water down character uniqueness, greatly. Individuality is already an issue that people complain about. Besides, even if you could literally take a Horde charter and ‘seek asylum’ with the Alliance, thus changing sides, the impact would be small. People would have to be willing to leave friends, who are willing to leave friends, who are willing to leave friends. Given how cozy it is in the Horde, with the usual numbers allowing for easy group finding, progression and high concentration of skilled PvPers, good luck getting people to walk away.

HELp! PLeaz kill me and put me out of my misery, i’m tooo singing (To the tune of Sexy and i know it) ♫♫HIDEOUS and you know it!! Too Hideous for my suit, too hideious for your, im hideious and you know it!♫

Uncreative and boring suggestion. Racials aren’t that big of a deal. Didn’t BoDA teach you alliance noobs that racials hardly matter in combat.

Also, a little imbalance makes things interesting. Allowing imbalance allows for more creativity.

If some racials are seriously that broken why not make good suggestions rather than one that makes this bland game even more chalky, air rice puff, no sweeteners, no caffiene, salt free game that it is. At some point when everything is the same itis like… what is the point?

Aesthetic as in form and principles of design, not as in typified or traditional beauty.

Obviously a lie as you are playing Horde.

Doesn’t matter. Most high end players don’t care about the story, they only care about how to get better and progress as much as possible in the game.

I think they should put all of the good “combat” ones into a pool, then let people pick.

Then each person should also get to pick a good “fluff” one, or their race should just determine the fluff one (like Mole Machine for Dark iron Dwarves, etc.)

I also think they should update the “junk” race fluff racials.

I don’t think it will change anything either, since any of these “top” guilds could do the same thing if they were all Alliance; It just becomes a self fulfilling prophesy.

the problem with this argument is that its already happened before

when alliance was the place for high end raid progression, and was significantly out pacing horde

clearly people had no problem switching to horde then, how would it stop people from switching to alliance now?
