faction divide needs to exist as long as pvp exists. which is forever.
See this is stupid because Factions like the Silver hand and Cenarion circle exist. All they would have to do to make cross faction grouping work for things not PvP oriented would change the guild system into a faction system. You can make the guild as pvp or PVE oriented which would change who could enter the guild. Wouldn’t harm PvP at all and would fix one of the biggest issues currently plaguing the game.
I bought BFA because i thought that the Aliance x Horde fight would be the entire expansion, and it would be an AWESOME storytelling… But there it is, for the 11231º time we join together to fight another universal treat, it is so boring… Now i support this faction extinction.
Go look at a box for vanilla WoW. “Choose your allegiance then wage relentless assault with your allies”.
So what did you do during WC3 when the Horde and Alliance were basically allies and many of the playable factions weren’t even part of either?
Destiny has PvP and it doesn’t have factions
Rift lets you play as either faction no matter which race you pick, and PvP still exists
ESO lets you play as any race on any faction, and do all factions storylines and quests, and it still has PvP in it.
Guild Wars has only 1 faction of playable characters and yet there’s still PvP.
fact of the matter is that we do not need a faction divide to have PvP, we do not need a faction divide to justify the PvP, we only have a faction divide because the devs don’t want to remove it for arbitrary reasons, like shoehorning in a “faction war” every few expansions where within 2 patches we’re already back to being buddy buddy with the other faction and Anduin being supreme commander of the Horde because Baine can’t handle making decisions.
I wuldnt like to see any coming together of factions in a permanent sense. Like Saurfang said, even if thry laboured for 1k years they culdnt bridge the divide. And i like it like that. The war in warcraft is a big part for me. Can we ally from time to time to get a big baddy? Sure. But i like that tension and feeling that at any time in both the lore and gameplay a war/skirmish can break out. One of the reasons why i totally dig this xpac. I wuld argue tho that the horde war campaign was a bit scummy coz of the way sylvanas operates. I wuld much more prefer a kindof brutish horde war campaign with pillaging, burning and crushing. No problems with the alliance campaign for me.
This healthy divide between horde n alliance has been ingrained in me since the days of WC3 and i would hate to hear it go. Im really glad with the response Ion gave at blizzcon which pretty much put a bullet in that topic.
The Horde is responsible for all of the interesting aspects and events driving the story. If that boundary was dissolved, nothing would happen to be the premise for new expansions.
I do want to play any race on both factions but everything shows this will never happen nor can it and it would anger the pvp community who I know for a fact most don’t use general forums like ever general forums is mostly casuals and raiders. and among them alliance. so this places idea of the whole faction divide doesn’t displaye the wants of the entire wow community.
It’d be hard, and take a while.
Therefore we shouldn’t do it.
That sounds like the words of a weakling quitter!
The best thing they could do would be to split the game into 3 factions.
1 Main faction. 2 Splinter PVP focused factions opposing each other.
Horde and Alliance merge, but die-hards of both former factions splinter off to form their own factions with blackjack and individuals of negotiable affection.
Players can then choose to side with the splinter faction to turn on PvP mode (similar to War Mode) and build reputation and fight and have merry wars against the other splinter faction.
The people who just want to raid are happy, as all the raiders are on one side.
The people who just want to fight are happy, as they get to murder other people who want to fight with abandon.
The story can progress further without having to worry about foolish faction divides at inopportune times that don’t make any logical sense.
That pillar is the money they make from faction transfers.

Agreed. The day factions are gone is the day I am gone.
I think a big reason people get annoyed is a few things:
1.) A faction gets more attention. Its inevitable especially when one faction has the big bad for the xpac. Eg garrosh and sylvanas. And yes this typically ends up horde as we get hit with the villain bat and they need to spend time “justifying” it.
2.) One side has to win and nobody wants to lose. At least with MoP it was more of a draw it felt like, but BFA was an utter loss for the horde including having to redesign their leadership. Nobody likes to lose.
3.) Blizzard is awful at writing faction conflicts, mainly because neither faction is “evil” so it will always feel forced or like the leaders are bipolar. Which also annoys people.
“New generation”? I’ve been playing since BC came out. The faction divide is trash and the game would be better without it.
The faction divide hasn’t been sacred since Blizz gave Blood Elves, an Alliance race, to the Horde in The Burning Crusade. The only thing that’s sacred to Blizz developers is making the Horde gets artificially propped up despite general interest existing more for the much cooler and engaging Alliance faction.
Yeah, and everyone knows what a big impact faction conflict had on Vanilla. The battles in Alterac Valley have had far-reaching ramifications that to this day are… oh wait, you say it’s still a battleground and irrelevant to the story?
A gamebox tagline is not an argument.
I’ve played since Warcraft II.
The faction divide is trash and the game would be better without it.
It’d be nice to do raids and heroics and stuff with Alliance on occasion. There’d always be BGs and warmode after all.
After being ganked and griefed by so many Allies, I’d like to have some positive interaction and know not all of them are soulless monsters who kill dancing party Tauren. And if they’re equally awful in instances then I’ll just say with complete unbiased hyperbole that all Alliance are irredeemable!
Ive been playing since LK and I would love a new overall faction system like good vs evil, or even the 4 covenants going to war and having that overwrite the current factions.
I love the horde, but at this point being at war or even tension with the alliance doesnt really make sense unelss you are a night elf or one of the still brainwashed forsaken.
