Extreme stuttering... EVERYWHERE after reinstalling

So… I recently reinstalled WoW after sending it off for repairs, pulled my addons from the places I saved them in back onto WoW, and as I got back on… EVERYTHING stutters every five or ten seconds or so. And this didn’t used to happen before I sent the laptop off. I’ve already updated my drivers, and changed a number of settings in-game, to no avail.. Any ideas to help me?

Can you detail the repairs? Unfortunately not knowing the device or the original issue that caused it to fail I wonder if it might be necessary to get the repair person involved again.

Eh, just had to have a LCD screen replaced. Nothing -DEEPLY- internal was done.

You might be running on the integrated GPU.

Did you check the graphics settings inside the Windows Control Panel? You can tell Windows which GPU to use for each piece of software. I also recommend checking whether whichever driver software you’re using for your GPU is setup as it was before.

Would I need to do that if I have Nvidia and it’s app, as it seems to have quite a few settings governing things like that? (Didn’t know Control Panel had graphics settings though…Also, yes, I’ve updated my Nvidia drivers.. no avail..><)

There are settings on a per-app basis in the Nvidia App and the Nvidia Control Panel, so probably check both. And yeah, Windows does have those settings for each app, which can sometimes default to the integrated GPU after an update.

You may want to ask the person who did the repair for you if they know what’s going on. They’ve probably done this job before and are aware of issues that can creep up afterwards.

Huh… so after fiddling around with some Nvidia settings, it does appear that setting the display mode to Optimus completely fixes the issue I had. So, I believe that narrows it down to Nvidia’s most recent update causing a problem… or another setting I might have to find. Then again, I really don’t mind playing WoW in Optimus mode from here on in if it keeps me from having stutter issues. xD

Glad you fixed it.

You can press the Ctrl Shift Window and B keys on your keyboard and it’ll reset your graphics card

Nvidia’s most recent driver 616.56 that they dropped the other day has a lot of issues everything from screen flashing to stuttering in games so I rolled back to the previous driver I would recommend you do the same.

616.64 has similar issues I would stay on 610.88 until these bugs have been confirmed fixed
