Them being on the forums isnt the problem. Them wanting to play is the problem.
So a couple of things, first I do NOT want to play now but I can still voice frustration about daily maintenance without things getting fixed.
But more to your point, you can see at least two reasons people want to play right now. This is their day off, or this is not their scheduled time to work. How is it so complicated?

3rd shift workers are like less than 5 percent of the workforce nearly 70 percent of the workforce in NA are Monday - Friday on the lower end. Occams razer dictates that a good portion are most likely NEETs with an unhealthy addiction to an mmorpg.
TBH it would bring me joy to have maintenance be until 5pm EST. Force the morning joes to browse indeed for once

who has off on a wednesday? The middle of the week? Who chooses the morning on their day off to sit in front of a screen? Yikes.

working 2 days having a day off, working 2 days, having 2 days off its kinda nice.
Oh I agree with the addiction, just look at how many call off on patch days and then complain about it LOL.
In regards to your stat though we aren’t just talking 3rd shirt, I’m east coast so if I worked 2-10 pm I could play right now. When I first started WoW my days off were Tuesday and Wednesday so maintenance did hit harder for me than now when I am off Saturday Sunday.

Not everyone chooses their days off, when I was low seniority I got what they gave me and since most people wanted weekends and Mondays I often got Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday off.
I do agree with your statement if someone is off they don’t have to sit in front of WoW, they could get errands done or just get outside but I won’t begrudge anyone that wants to play. Perhaps the weather stinks where they are at, for example.
I just think the initial question he asked “why aren’t you people working?” came across so aggressive and negative.

My ‘tank’ Brann was doing this already. Not really sure what all this ‘tank brann was too powerful’ is about, cause I never saw it.
Nothing wrong with wanting to play a game on a day off just because you would not does not mean it is any less valid for someone else.
