That’s not very constructive.
Because it sounds like a terrible idea. This is an MMORPG not a roguelike.
Sounds fun.
I think it’s super silly they mark rares and treasures on the map now. It takes away all fun of discovery.
Let people who don’t care about exploration use addons.
I think Torghast just sent a drink over to you from across the bar…
First, not a fan of Torghast. Second, Torghast is instanced and not the open world. What you want is to completely destroy the open world in favor of randomly generated zone maps.
Maybe Diablo would be more your type of game.
Then this optional part of the game could be ignored by you and players like you.
It would, in no way, be tied to player power.
I mean you’re asking for basically a different genre of game within wow. Why not just go play a survival type game or roguelike game?
I like it when games mess with the map.
BDO does it for the desert, which is… really a patch-sized zone all on its own complete with 2 major longform storylines, solid grinding spots, and world bosses.
Over there, the minimap works as normal (no points of interest or anything like WoW has with those silver arrows), but the World Map is covered. You get debuffed eventually if you spend time there, and you counter the debuffs (there are 2) with different kinds of drinks.
Basically you navigate based on memory and landmarks, but there aren’t many landmarks in the central portions of the desert, so you’re really remembering “that dune over there” or “NW from this point just outside of the desert” rather than “big obvious pillar”.
Many people who aren’t great at pathfinding tend to latch onto other players nearby when they’re trying to get somewhere in / through the desert, which is kind of neat.
I enjoy it. It’d be annoying if an entire game was like that, but it’s really neat as a change of pace. Don’t know that it’s the best environment to introduce “guild content”, but as a zone thing, I’d be down for it.
That could be said about pet battles.
Why don’t you contribute by coming up with alternatives to the boring end game?
Because that’s not my job. I pay to play this game not design it.
If I’m craving something besides wow I’ll log off and go play it
Torghast open world edition.
I can dig it
I dunno about a whole continent, but I’ve thought it would neat if there were some forest in game that were so deep, dark, and unable to be fully comprehended that even seasoned adventurers traveling through it had chance of getting “lost”, which in terms of game mechanics means getting seamlessly phased into a different, randomized version of the zone. It wouldn’t have any “madnesses” or similar mechanics — you could stay as long as you wanted, but it’d be at your own peril.
Sounds like something that’d be more fun as Warcraft 4. Rather than the old RTS type, it’s exploration of new continent, expanding, fighting, capping points. Gathering resources.
A sandbox version of WoW would be cool. Basically WoW Rust.
That could be fun.
Just… something unrelated to raiding, arena or M+ to cleanse the palate and remind us that WoW is an RPG.
(Well, remind those who want to be reminded)
“Hey, if you wanna raid log, arena or M+, feel free. For others; here ya go. Go nuts.”
