My prediction (bugs aside), will be that the currency acquisition rate will be awful and folks will flock to the forums complaining about it (not without justification, I might add).

On the second week, Blizzard will hotfix it to significantly increase the currency acquisition rate.

We’ve seen this pattern repeatedly over the last few years. The developers have been trending toward being extremely stingy with limited-time currencies, until the player base screams back about how mathematically it makes for a rediculous burn-out grind, then they relent.

I honestly don’t know how this keeps happening. The whole “player engagement metric” argument that folks keep bringing-up lacks depth. Why would Blizzard intentionally want to burn-out its own player base? You can keep players engaged far easier and with fewer negative repercussion.

Anyway, my prediction stands:

In order to obtain all the currency needed to purchase all the items, it will start as an insane slog, then be later hotfixed to still be a slog, but less of one.

(I would very much be pleased to be proven wrong on this, btw. I want all the items and would very much not prefer yet another FOMO grind. Burnout is no way to start a new expansion.)

Sheesh why is prepatch event gear so bad?? Am I seeing that right? The gear is 53 or 73 ilvl??

Yeah that’s why I’m saying Thursday. I know for the War Within prepatch event it was crap until the Thursday of the same week when they hotfixed. Fairly certain the same thing happened with the DF event. And of course the most recent example as of last week being the transmog prices. Complaints all day Tuesday/Wednesday for a hotfix for the Thursday.

 especially for multiple alts i may or may not play in midnight. once again blizz out of touch with their playerbase :joy::joy::joy:

I don’t think they want to burn out the player base per se, but they (the corporate overlords) absolutely do want maximum “engagement,” and they’re willing to burn the fringes to find the bleeding edge of what players will deem acceptable. Ironically it’s a PR win as well when they “listen to/value player feedback,” and ‘tune’ accordingly.

I think on a gameplay level the devs are out of touch with the playerbase in a lot of ways, but on a business level they’re smarter than they seem. Corporations love their senseless metrics to parade in front of shareholders, and this is a manifestation of that.

I would have loved to participate in this event, just to pass time. Unfortunately, since Blizzard still hasn’t fixed the bug preventing my Lemix character from getting The War Within intro to quest, I’ll be opting out. I’m not leveling an alt to get my main over, and to lose time in game just because you guys can’t fix a bug.

It will launch as a slog, both due to currency acquisition issues, as well as numerous bugs.

Some things just won’t work at all, others will bug out, mobs / events will have slow respawn timers, scaling will be whacked, tagging rules will leave most mobs grey, etc.

My sub ends 29th Jan. If my water elemental still doesn’t reappear after dismounting post flying after Tuesday maintenance, I think I’m going to take a break until Midnight launch.
