Excessive keybinds. Time for major pruning of abilities

Reply that to him not me XD

Remove the ones you don’t want to use.

Why wait for blizzard to remove abilities when you can just take them off your bars yourself.

Give more buttons.
We need more bloaty specs.

yea I play multiple toons and try to keep similar spells with similar key binds for example my cc’s are bound to certain bounds, my burst, my general rotation is 1 2 3 4 etc…
then I have key combinations like alt lc Alt rc ctrl lc etc…

I can usually squeeze out 14 or 15 binds but after that it gets ridiculous…I think that many binds is too much even with macro’s (which everyone should be using) it’s too much

I’m not saying dumb down the game but I think a lot of spells can be consolidated and/or removed

Because it’s not needed.

See, this is a lie.
I brought in a friend that mainly plays MOBA. His issue was not macros or number of buttons, but the wonky scaling and terrible leveling experience.

Finally, you CAN play WoW with a pad right now, even more so if you use an addon called ConsolePort.

My sister does timed mid-high level M+ using the group finder with it, using an Aya Neo portable PC, and from what I’ve tried of it, it works just fine.

This game is a MMORPG, it’s not an action/MOBA game. The buttons are there for a reason. It’s also not for everyone, so I hope they don’t try to dumb it down in order to bring more people.

We all know some bloat can be trimmed, espcially redundant CDs and abilities that fill the same purpose, but never to the level of a 5-button game.

Suit yourself.
Time investment is a basic thing in any RPG.

You know I was on a train and it didn’t crash so train crashes do NOT! happen. What a troll

You forgot the wow community itself!

Well I know people that only play SOD and wow classic so the numbers are cooked :money_mouth_face:

Good, this genre isn’t for them. We have enough players who aren’t willing to invest time into this game so they complain about anything that takes a time investment. A time investment is expected in this genre of game. Adios to players who want to treat an mmorpg like Call of Duty.

While I don’t think that we should go around looking to remove potentially fun spells, I do think OP is 100% correct about the button bloat problem. World of Warcraft already has the tools to solve this problem too. Take a look at these three talents.

  • Empyrean Blaze: At the start of Dragonflight, this holy priest talent was a button press that modified your next two Holy Fire casts. In 10.2.6, it was changed to be a passive that activated every time Holy Word: Chastise was cast, effectively reducing the number of buttons on your bar while maintaining the effect.
  • Templar Strikes: This retribution paladin talent gives Crusader Strike a second charge, but the second cast in the spell has a completely different effect. Effectively, it works like the Plunderstorm basic attack button, which is three spells on a single keybind due to cycling. Survival Hunter also uses this mechanic with its Wildfire Bombs.
  • Blindside: This assassination rogue talent allows you to cast a buffed Ambush when it procs, even if you aren’t stealthed. Since Assassination doesn’t normally keep Ambush on its non-Stealth toolbar however, the talent replaces Mutilate with Ambush when it procs, effectively allowing one button to share both functions.

We can use this framework to dramatically reduce button bloat. Here are some examples.

  • Bonedust Brew is a fun mechanic, but for brewmaster monks it’s the second of two reticle-targeting keg-toss attacks. Bonedust Brew could be changed like Empyrean Blaze, where anyone you hit with Explosive Keg gets the bonedust brew debuff applied to them. Same effect, but one less button press.

  • Windwalker Monks have a billion different ki generators, with their primary mechanic serving to try and reduce the total number of consecutive button presses you make in a hope to try and capture the classic arcade fighter feel. Only, it sort of doesn’t work. There are too many buttons with similar purposes, and too many spenders. You could use a Templar Strikes-style mechanic to make this work better; have a “punch” button and a “kick” button. First punch is Tiger Palm, second one is Fist of the Windlord. First kick is Blackout Kick, second punch is Spinning Crane Kick. Then you have a third button, the Spender Button, that becomes a Spender based on the combination of buttons you pressed. For example, Kick/Kick makes Rising Sun Kick. Punch/Punch makes Fists of Fury. Kick/Punch or Punch/Kick makes Whirling Dragon Punch. That takes about seven buttons and condenses them into three that makes the spec play more true to its fantasy.

  • Pyroblast is the iconic fire Mage spell, but without a specific talent you basically never want to cast it unless Hot Streak is up. Maybe it should work like Blindside, where your Fire Blast transforms into Pyroblast when you gain two stacks of Hot Streak.

I think if you looked hard enough you could find ways to take active talents and make them “active passives” in much the same way. They don’t add a new keybind, but they transform an existing one. I think that’s what WoW needs going forward.

WoW doesn’t need new players that aren’t going to like the game anyway, they are welcome to keep playing Call of Duty.

Also, you have no idea about the number of new players.

It varies greatly from spec to spec, but I think there’s a lot that could be done to bring down the complexity, the required keybinds, etc.

Skill Capped just put out a video today that touched on it. It’s one of the things that’s happened to PvP.

What am I mad about? That your friends don’t want to play the game? lol

So basically something like this?

I only wish some of you were here for the last great pruning of our abilities that led to mindless boring gameplay…

Opinion are fine, some are good and some are bad. Your friends opinions are bad. This game isn’t for them if they don’t want to invest time into the game.

Sure but pruning doesnt have to be that excessive, we really do have some specs that have way too many keybinds

We are talking about Blizzard methods, right?

Either I’m doing something wrong or I’m just confused. All of my heals fit into Healbot without issue. So my action bar is just my 5 DPS abilities and a few cooldowns.

Wait… is this that stupid Feral swapping spec thing?
