If you haven’t noticed alongside the hc realm launch 1.14.4 has also pvp rank system changes to be tested (which are not on ptr yet, and not even announced) and will reset all pvp ranks upon release

Yeah it was mentioned in the 1.14.4 blue post and again in the development notes. It hasn’t bee clarified at all what they’re changing though, aside from that the changes will “improve the long term health of vanilla era”. Hopefully they scrap the old ranking system or make a substantial overhaul.

The most successful time for classic pvp (including vanilla/tbc/wrath) was actually the wrath prepatch, where you could get all the pvp gear from a huge amount of grinding. I would assume the new pvp system will be similar to this.

That should illustrate which versions of WoW they think are retail and which is Classic WoW.
