Entering and exiting War Mode at will in the open world?

While doing crates I’ve run into several Alliance who are able to turn war mode on, stop us from capping, and then immediately turn war mode back off. How is this possible? It’s clearly done with intent, so it must be a bug of some kind?

It must not be an infinite option or there is some trick to it though, because they only did it a few times before stopping. All I have is a screenshot of one person who didn’t stop us from opening the crate, but I did see her purposely enter and leave WM a few times right before dying. So I only have one name tied to whatever this is.

Are you sure it wasn’t near a sanctuary? There is one specifically horrendous crate drop point right next to Amani’zar Village’s sanctuary, its very very easy to hop back over the line and hop back out long enough to interrupt.

One was as far SE as the crate can go in ZA (with the shrine next to the drop location). Another time was the northern middle drop in ZA, and the last time was in EW where it drops on that small strip of land running through the river.

All of them happened after 12.0.5. Not that I expect that to matter, but just in case.

I’ve encountered people abusing the sanctuaries to do this in ZA, but I’ve never encountered anyone able to actually turn war mode off in open world.

Setting up a fireplace used to trigger rest mode just like cities and inkeepers, the vulpera racial tent also allows us to toggle Warmode Off, but not On.
