Enneagram is the best way to choose your class?

According to the gospel countdown to classic podcast we should all choose our classes based on enneagram. What do you guys think about this new meta?

Apparently shamans are enneagram 3 which didn’t make any sense at all given the explanation

Is ‘new meta’ the new YOLO?

New metro- probably

Now I know you ain’t talkin smack on my boy Countdown to Classic.

wtf is enneagram, how does it relate to character classes, and where can i take the assessment

What are you babbling about? is this some new edgelord thing?

Are you trying to be edgy?

I think enneagram describes your internet personality

Well that’s an interesting idea. Not sure how well it would work. I’ll toss out my thoughts, using the Riso-Hudson shorthand names for the numbered types.

(For those who know nothing about the Enneagram of personality types, check Wikipedia -https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enneagram_of_Personality.)

  1. The Reformer - Also known as the Perfectionist. This is a pretty easy call for the Paladin.
  2. The Helper - Another easy one, always wanting to help others: Priest. (This type often covertly or overtly wants something in return though, which isn’t terribly saintly.) Any healing class could easily go here, of course.
  3. The Achiever - Here things get less clear, but I’d give this one to Rogue. Enneagram 3 is generally about external achievements and recognition by others, and Rogues seem to like bragging about their kills. But really anybody going for PVP rank or raid gear goes here.
  4. The Individualist - As the “freak class” of WoW, the Warlock fits this pretty well in some regards.
  5. The Investigator - The intellectual type goes to Mage, obviously.
  6. The Loyalist - The Loyalist either does what their authority figures say, or challenges them when their trust is in doubt. I wouldn’t say any class necessarily embodies that, but Shamans follow spirits and serve their tribe, so I’ll put them here. You could also put the Hunter here, in consideration of his bond with his pet.
  7. The Enthusiast - Always running off to the next great adventure, you might think any class could go here. Another weak type for fitting a WoW class, I’ll put Hunter here, because they gotta go somewhere.
  8. The Challenger - The most aggressive point on the Enneagram obviously goes to Warrior.
  9. The Peacemaker - The type that tries to get along with all the other types, often by taking on their behaviors. A kind of shapeshifting, if you will, hence Druid.

For your next challenge, try matching talent trees to Ennegram wings or directions of integration/disintegration.

Better than a test would be to read a good multi-paragraph description of each type (and its related/linked types) and decide which fits you best. Having other people chime in on what type they think you are can be an enlightening confirmation or reality check. There are several good books about the Ennegram out there—I recommend the authors Riso & Hudson—but you can get good overviews on the Web.

That said, this web page seems to cover both angles and then some - https://www.johnglanvill.com/free-enneagram-test/.

Can I use it for Tinder matches too?

If you are undecided and REALLY have no choice. Troll priest. You’ll always be 98% good with that.

From what I’m reading it looks like warriors would be enneagram 3 as they want the spotlight. All eyes on them. I think rogue would be 8 since they are the actual agressors?

yeah rogue is 8 for sure. I’m a rogue player at heart and it describes me REALLY well

Yeah that works too. Maybe I was influenced by Warriors having Rage as a mechanic.

I think they guy was assigning the classes to the sort of player that would play those classes. I.e. typing the player picking the class not typing the class fantasy itself. But the way they explained shamans being 3 didn’t make sense. Hunter as 6 I understood.

Apparently orange is the new black too.

Make a pie chart with the nine classes then tape it to the wall and throw a dart at it.

I’ll try to match them in a different way, aside from Class Fantasy (which often can be a deciding factor in what class suits which player)

Type 1 - The Reformer - Perfectionist, responsible, and always seeking to improve. This could be anyone in progression raiding or premade battle groups. These types might be attracted to Tanks (Warrior). This type seems to often gravitate towards leadership rolls and Tanks often are leaders or leader figures in groups of all sizes.

Type 2 - The Helper - Helpful, selfless, altruistic, and caring. People here may enjoy Healer and Utility classes. While Priest, Paladin, and Shaman are immediate go-tos, particularly altruistic Mages might like this as well as they can provide free food/water and fast travel in an era of WoW where those matter.

Type 3 - The Achiever - Competitive and desire to be both successful and validated. Warriors will be the go-to class for this type as Warriors are the best tanks and DPS in the game with the right gear (which is something worthy to strive for and work towards, which makes it all the better for this type). Rogues and Mages may also be great for this type, particularly Mages, as they are welcome and competitive in all content.

Type 4 - The Individualist - This type likes uniqueness, looking for their own identity and not be seen as “common”. This type will gravitate towards lesser-played classes and specs. This type might like Warlock and Druid, who both appear to be the lesser played in this era of WoW. Warlocks and Hunters might be a good fit for solo/lone wolf players as their pets make them all the more self reliant.

Type 5 - The Investigator - This type likes to withdraw and observe. This type comes across to me as being cautious and wanting a bird’s eye view of the situation. Ranged DPS (Mage, Warlock, and Hunter) could be a good fit for this type as it allows them to make more calculated decisions from the backline rather than being in the chaos of melee combat.

Type 6 - The Loyalist - …there really isn’t a good fit for this, at least not immediately. It seems like this type would best fit as any DPS, as tanking and healing positions tend to be more stressful than the former.

Type 7 - The Enthusiast - A pleasure seeker, multi-tasker, and adventurous type. Ultimately this type wants to keep all options open. Druids can fit this type as Druids can theoretically perform any roll with a degree of competence (at least outside of raids). Type 7s might enjoy the flexibility that Druids offer.

Type 8 - The Challenger - Those that don’t want to be controlled and want to go on their own way. Any class suitable for soloing (Hunter) or World PvP (Rogue) would fit this type. In group settings, this type might like Tanks as they ultimately set the pace where Healers and DPS play “follow the leader”. For DPS, Rogues offer some of the best DPS with no expectation of utility, as opposed to utility skills of other classes that might annoy this type if asked constantly to use them.

Type 9 - The Peacemaker - A peaceful, adaptable, yet conflict-averse type. This type might like Healers, but could also be any DPS.

Any class can be any type.

But for fun:

  1. Paladin
  2. Priest
  3. Hunter
  4. Warlock
  5. Mage
  6. Shaman
  7. Rogue
  8. Warrior
  9. Druid

Internet personality tests are about as reliable and informative as your astrological sign.

I have no idea why this garbage is somehow accepted as gospel.
