Sure, and it’s obviously nothing insanely broken or we’d see it a lot more, but it’s not like the game is shaman v guys trying not to die to shaman. You and your partners can lock them down the same way they can do to you and you could also just “walk away” from any major offensive cooldown, ya know?
I don’t think that’s quite as fair, because demolish has like a 5 yd range and windstrike is 30 (and ignores armor), but also obviously demolish is a 45s cd and immunes stuns, while ascendance is 2 minutes and you can be CCd during it.
I did! Granted, I’m only like 1900 mmr so these aren’t exactly high games, but it feels really good IMO XD
The damage just BLASTS and I watch healthbars melt.
It’s damage OUTSIDE of ascendance that feels bad to me, but that’s mostly because I’m not playing it well and I feel like I’m spinning plates between all the utility and the rotation. Comparing ascendance to other melee 2 min CDs like meta or celestial conduit + xuen and it just seems WAY stronger.
I was also playing with a BM hunter and it felt like if we made it to second set of CDs we auto won because COTW + Ascend is such an insane combo.
I’m pretty sure if I played it in shuffle or without a bm hunter it’d feel a lot weaker, though.
I find the damage outside Ascendance to be excellent. I very rarely have big discrepancies with other dps in terms of single target damage, as long as you can keep uptime, use crash lightning effectively , and use voltaic procs the damage is kind of crazy. Like you say, for someone who doesn’t main enh you lose damage just keeping track of everything else you should be doing.
I pretty much exclusively play shuffle and from what I can see there are like 10-20 stormbringers on the first page, which says it all.
The main reason asc isn’t as good is because of how easy it is to deal with. Disarm effecting it kinda sucks, cc on top of that can shut it down a bit too easily i think but you also have pretty good damage outside of it with tempest. Using tempest at 10 stacks has it critting for 1.4m+, and with a bit of rng you can do 2 of those back to back. Elementalist doesn’t really have cds it just has so much consistent damage, but it is a bit harder to play imo due to managing surging totem, and stormbringer having a lot of ranged spells is really nice. Short 1 minute go with doom winds+lust is also very nice, but unfortunately disarm lines up with both ascendance and doom winds lol
I ain’t been PVPing much this season so I gotta ask.
Why? Elementalist is completely absolutely banned in PVE and while I get PVE and PVP are different the PVP spec people are playing RN looks like an abomination and makes no sense.
So many talents/talent lines seem super bad atm (like splintered elements) and the totem seems like the worst thing ever in pvp. It does very low pulse damage on average and even sundering with a juiced rebound stacked up doesn’t hit particularly hard at all. Quite aside from the fact if it’s a pain keeping stuff in it in PVE I cannot imagine how annoying it is in pvp.
What’s the hook here making it good. Normally the PVE and PVP builds aren’t like completely divergent like this. It’s literal polar opposites atm.
Ya my problem is 100% I’m trying to do too much with shear/purge off cd/roots/cap and little things like missing uptime or overcapping on maelstrom weapon stacks. I really just need to hit a target dummy for like an hour or play through it on mythic raid reclear.

Feel like this is an issue for the stormgbringer build, though, especially if you have to play defensively. Feels like when you can gas pedal, though, you can run stuff over.
Sure, but how is t his different compared to other classes? I’ve played every class this season and most specs to 1800+ for the transmogs and ascendance feels way stronger and reliable than other classess major CDs because it lasts a while and makes your damage range AND you have so many tools to enable it like ground/root/static/cap.

Sure, but most teams don’t have a disarm and the ones that do you just gotta do your 1min go on the guy who can disarm in a stun. I really feel like disarm is NOT that bad most of the time and when I get disarmed at a crucial time I either wasted my trinket or misplayed a setup, ya know?
you def have to be really good about moving it but even more than that being able to trigger the hothand just dropping it is completely insane
splintered elements being between 15% and 20% haste on every other hot hand force feels really powerful for burst
lashes with 3-5 flame shocks rolling hit top end 1.4m then average about 700-800k every global with low ashen stacks
the idea is that you have a massive amount of controlled burst and the sustained esp in cleave scenarios is extremely powerful
sustained gets pretty mid when you’re fighting something like aff/sp/50 yard healer though
i’m not sure exactly what they’re doing in pve ; just briefly dabbling weeks ago i remember it being like a weird hybrid build
but i’d say ss/wf damage isn’t nearly good enough for how little uptime you have in PvP against almost anything in the modern game
like i have to have nearly 95% unbothered uptime on something with low armor to do even close to competitive damage playing ss talents over elementalist and with how hyper mobile literally everything is that only ever happens against spriest basically ever
also being forced to lose a PvP talent slot for ride the lightning is prob one of the worst feelings in the world
Ya, I know to not stand in it, but I’ve definitely gone 84-0 in 1.1 seconds vs a fury turbo before where they dropped surging on me, I wild charged out, got charge rooted, shifted bear, and died in those two globals. There were like 4 surging totem hits for 6-800k each??
I’m imagining this is why saul and bigdam play that over ascendance, ya? Just way higher consistent over the 2minute big CD?

I feel like this is so huge, especially because of how many good ones you have between burrow, ground, lust, and would-be-great talents like static and stormweaver aren’t able to be taken most of the time.
yeah this is new to the recent patch a couple weeks ago
you get all 3 of these buffs every time you drop surging totem (24s cd)
so you get ele blast + 3 surging hits (roughly 800k + 500k + 500k + 500k)
and you get hothand (reduces lava lash cd and buffs it’s damage by a LOT for a brief window)
so it has a completely insane amount of burst every 30 seconds
which is why i think demo/enh is so completely underutilized personally
it’s way more damage overall but stormstrike is awful into most things
you will never have close to enough uptime to just hammer stormstrikes into specs that aren’t spriest or destro in the current game to do meaningful damage outside of ascendance

stormstrike build feels great since the patch too (they added a second charge of stormstrike and made it really fluid) it just doesn’t do enough for it to matter when most of the specs in the game can deny uptime very handily

not having the ability to take burrow/stormweaver/static just feels bad

We ended up winning the game because assa rogue + dragon is really good into dragon turbo since they’re perma stacked, but HOLY that’s actually the fastest I’ve died all season.
Bigdam was playing it and owning! Really feels like there just aren’t many enh shaman or locks and the ones that are playing prefer splay or rogue/lock (and tbh I can’t blame em). Demo + boomy also seems insane.
I just play with a bm and line to make them run at me so I don’t need to chase, and then my BM wins for me. OR they go him and I get permanent uptime as they chase the hunter.
Ya, that’s why you basically always play stormstrike/ascend build in pve.
Also VERY true. I haven’t seen any boomy+ele since the nerfs, but the combination of moonkin aura and totem of wrath was just some bananas damage. It also buffed wind kick damage b/c it’s technically a spell XD
i think honestly they should probably reduce the front loaded damage and find a way to make enhancement damage feel slightly better in scenarios where you can realistically only have a single flameshock out
like it feels pretty bad to hit an aff in splay outside of your burst
Do you see a lot of splay? I swear I only see SP + melee when I see a spriest. IG I fought one aff splay today, and we just ran them over with a fury war and I don’t think any game was longer than 90s.
How does jungle feel? I feel like on paper they could also create some real distance and be difficult to attack, but I was watching saul and happigirl play with feedgod and they went like 4-1 vs the r1 jungle on the ladder atm.
Spam lightning bolt and proc phys dmg wolves until your totem pulses for 10 million, then push sunder and it deletes the planet more or less.
Both Stormbringer and Totemic COMPLETELY ignore the entire right hand side of the tree. Splintered elements is banned and everything revolves around Ascendance.
PVP tree is quite literally as opposite as it’s possible to be.
I wonder if people would be more into Stormbringer in PVP if they knew some of the bugs that existed IE If you consume the Primordial Wave buff with Tempest all of your secondary lightning bolts do like 300% more damage.
That said appreciate the info. I guess I’ll have to play around with it because it just looks SO awkward having PVE’d all expansion.
