I have been looking at the new PTR tree for Protection and it seems okay. The only thing that jumped off the page for me is Enduring Defense being a 2-point talent with an okay effect (+1 sec to shield block per point), but it blocks all passive buffs. It just feels bad to have to use those two points when other goodies are right there. I also don’t know how solid the Hunker Down/Spellbreaker node is going to be. I’ll give Hunker Down a try to start with.
Is there any sort of replacement for Spell Block or whatever it is?
Spell breaker is a 4% proc to ignore magical damage. That is what they replaced it with. It’s garbage, and a horrible change that is just gonna be a loss of a good ability.
That is unfortunate, for both PvE and PvP.
Removing one of our best anti magic damage moves while at the same time introducing a raid where 90% of the tank busters are magic attacks was a bold move
It feels like they don’t really have bead on how they want warriors to interact with magic. I like the idea of a Warrior’s “Cloak of Shadows” to give us a short window to soak magical bombs that can’t or shouldn’t be reflected. And while this is what Hunker Down does…I just feel like 10% isn’t enough.
What I hate the most, are blizzards insane “reasons” for removing spell block
BC dont prot paladins block spells passively? Does this somehow not have any of the issues they say spell block has?
Stop giving BS reasons blizzard
The only thing I really hate about the tree is how they rearranged it horribly. And now you are FORCED to take Devastator to get stuff on the right side of the prot tree.
Although I agree the reasoning bliz has given is poor and the changes are a huge nerf to prot war; prot pally block is garbage compared to war. Like it’s not even in the same ball park. We should probably stick to arguments re warriors.
the mechanic you smooth brain
the mechanic used to block spells is the same
the reasoning makes zero sense
Hunker down is going to give you 10% more magic DR with spell reflect which is great imo. Spell reflect is up for most magic tank busters.
Our self-heal from fueled by violence is also getting a huge buff if things stay the way they are.
Ah man, that would be nice!
It will be able 3-4 times the healing it is currently doing.
Which if I apply that to my healing in a floodgate I tanked it would be an 27%-41% to my total self healing as prot.
Now this will be stronger in aoe.
They’re also improving how brutal vitality works as well.
Bloodborne being a choice node with Sudden death is no choice at all. At no point ever, will I ever not take sudden death. Only thing I really dislike about the tree rearrangement.
Sudden death is the most fun Prot ability. Should be baseline.
Not to mention even more execute support making it a cleave now with Heavy Handed talent.
Totally agree about sudden death. I love execute so much as prot. I’m super stoked for an execution focused build.
Dots are going to pump in big aoe. I can’t wait.
This confused me as well.
Since it’s the only pathway to so many talents, it doesn’t make any sense to force us to invest 2 points to progress further.
That’s probably the only issue I currently have with the tree.
That isn’t really exciting gameplay though especially when you are sacrificing the main button I enjoy pushing with execute. Then all the talents that support it.
Maybe if they buff Rend base damage by 50% and have Dot ticks reset shield slam or have 25% chance to crit.
I wouldn’t play Prot without sudden death.
What if the tier gave you 100% more damage on deep wounds and rend and there was a talent for 25% more bleed damage and you healed for 200% of the damage done by deep wounds and you did giga aoe pulls?
I can’t wait
Yea but what if there is a tier that gives you 2% crit and 10% execute crit damage and another gives 25% execute damage and then another that makes execute hit 2 additional target.
Sorry Prot is an execute spec. It’s the ONLY fun button Prot has to press. (which is another huge problem) Putting that as a choice isn’t a choice at all.
Trying to shift Prot into a bleed spec is one thing but that is also super boring. There is nothing fun about that gameplay. Nothing exciting to press.
I can’t get too mad though I play WoW a couple months a year because it’s not a very good game and Class design is terrible. I was going to play some because of the rework but there is no world where you don’t take Sudden death. The Devs saying they want more choice and then do that? I always take blood borne and sudden death now I can’t take blood borne. Makes you just want to not even play.
Blood borne is super boring and should be baseline, it has nothing to do with gameplay and talents should be about making gameplay choices. (which the Devs also said about talents yet get this wrong)
If the Devs want people to come back and play Prot this isn’t the way. At least there are a lot of other great games for me to play while I wait for WoW to get it’s act together. You have fun though I’ll play another game.
