Endless "Warcrft: Forever" promotion

To be frank right from the start, I am neither a top tier raider, nor a mythic dungeon champion.
I’m a VERY casual player, moderately geared from a bit of crafting, and great vault items. I just enjoy questing, doing dailies, and until recently enjoyed the social aspect of WoW (sadly, my last in-game friend passed away last month.)

But am I alone in feeling that Blizzard is really going a TINY bit over the top with the ceaseless Warcraft: Forever promotion?
The Blizzard channel on Facebook is constantly pushing news about Forever, and Youtube has video after video about it as well.

It sort of makes me sad. It leaves me with a bit of a sour taste in my mouth, the sensation that Blizzard is putting all of its eggs in the Forever basket.

Maybe I’m just a bit bitter or sad about being the last surviving member of my guild (we weren’t exactly a young crowd to start with.)

It is the new big thing that will eventually replace retail which is going into a retirement home.

People have been asking for a classic+ for years. Idk why we are shocked pikachu face that they are advertising a new mode so heavily.

They made it to make money. It is not a favor to classic players. It will be heavily monetized especially now getting close to end of year. Got to hit those record profits.

You’re not alone. But it is just the new SoD or Plunder storm event, it will be over soon. Its also them refusing to look at the ACTUAL game, because they have made a big hash of things.

I’ve been pretty bummed since Blizzcon. They could have put their ideas and efforts into Retail, but the Classic sweats just won’t play retail because their Influencers need to deride it, and it’s now just built in.

Chromie time, the starter Cringe Island, the abandoned racial cities, war mode, portals at the docks, Sindormi lore phase toggles, etc. That all stays, I guess.

Go do some Venom assaults while they try to bandage their new travesty.

It’s gonna last way longer than that, bud.

As a Retail player for over ten years, and a player who started in Wrath, Retail has been a husk if what WoW once was. I miss the slower pace and RPG feel of WoW.

I think many of the devs do, too. I know a lot of people will be moving on to Forever.

It’s their shiny new big thing, so they’re pushing it hard. They did the same thing with Housing when it was new.

The ad spend appears to be off the charts.

Seeing adds all over youtube.

And all the “influencers” some of which the crowd here has a severe problems with… That they all came back to the game at the same time to play a beta… Nothing unnatural about that at all.

And they’re running tons of WoW adds against their content.

The real confusing thing is all the RMT gold that’s available. How that happened is mind boggling. You would either need an exploit, to be blizzard, or an army of bots that need to pay for game time and the expansion beta access, get leveled, and farm for a significant amount of time for all the gold that appears to be available.

I just don’t see how that type of investment would be put into a beta without knowing if anyone would be playing it and willing to buy gold for character that gets wiped in month.

Really starting to suspect their might be an “Other revenue” line item in their financials that might be hiding something.

Show me where they said they are abandoning Retail?

Eh… it’s new. They’re going to promote the begeezus out of it.

And that’s fine!

Just stop skipping my Retail news, like the Trading Post preview.

It’s just because it’s new and shiney and releasing soon. :woman_shrugging:

When TLT expansion is finally announced with a new cinematic and all that, that’s what all the hubbub will switch too.

What else would they post about? There’s nothing good happening in retail, and won’t be for the next 3 years. Nothing in TLT looks interesting, retail is in dire need of GIANT changes to become interesting again. WoWF is where the hype is right now and the foreseeable future. As a company they are just doing the right move. I would argue that the only weird thing is grasping at straws trying to keep retail relevant while it’s rotting in your hands.

Sure it’s a lot, but it’s their new game mode and they have to push it as hard as possible. If it doesn’t make money, someone’s getting in trouble.

Forever is literally the retirement home.

I don’t mind that some players are getting something they sort of asked for. I will continue casually in retail, perhaps even do more advanced content again at some point. My bro and his son are coming back for forever, so there is that. I will donsome forever with them even though it is not the version I prefer.

You’re not alone.
I am so sorry about your friend. :crying_cat: :hugs:
Forever has been hyped, but it’s not for me and if people like it good for them.
Just wish they’d leave us on this forum alone because their ‘retail is going to die’ topics are meant to hurt and troll us.

But, I don’t believe this temporary hype will last and Blizz hasn’t deserted WoW.

This is an unfortunate side effect of the people that are streaming this and their followers. People looking for a less toxic experience in Forever are in for a bad time.

Meh, every so often the algorithms seem to zero in on me and bombard me with promos for some new game. It’s sort of the norm now.

If I’m careful not to click on any of it, the algorithms should eventually take the hint. At worst, it should all fade away after Forever launches.

Forever is going to be the WoW retirement home. Retail will keep on going as normal.
